One Rhythm
$14.37 Originally intended as a chronicle of Michael Jackson's possible reascension to the pop king throne by way of a massive 50-date tour, the documentary THIS IS IT became something much different when Jackson suddenly died mere weeks before its kickoff. Now a movie capturing the complicated figure in vulnerable moments during the last days of his life, THIS IS IS boasts a soundtrack comprised of the classic originals of the hits featured in the film. It also contains a new single co-written by Paul Anka and featuring Jackson's brothers on back-up vocals, as well as a variety of demos.

| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
One Rhythm
$11.59 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that carry no less strength or muscle. But FUNHOUSE is a pop album first and foremost, and its catchy choruses, rollicking beats, and memorable vocal performances won't disappoint.

| | Ledisi Lost And Found CD (2007)
One Rhythm
$10.85 New Orleans-born, California-bred singer Ledisi released a couple of indie albums leading up to her big-label debut with LOST & FOUND, and the latter is where the world at large meets a talent both highly individual and slyly syncretic. While Ledisi is ostensibly a modern R&B singer, whose tunes bear touches of hip-hop in their production, her background in everything from showtunes to symphony halls peeks through. The jazzy inflections, show-stopping delivery, and old-school soul that catch you by surprise are part and parcel of what makes LOST & FOUND stand out among the contemporary R&B pack.
Personnel: Ledisi (vocals); Rahsaan Patterson (vocals); Brandon Fields (horns); Rex Rideout (keyboards, programming); Dwayne Smith, Melvin Davis, Nelson Braxton (bass guitar); Michael White (drums).
Recording information: Backroom, Oakland, CA.
| | Fugees Score CD (1996)
One Rhythm
$6.79 THE SCORE won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, and "Killing Me Softly" won a 1997 Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. The album was also nominated for Album Of The Year.
On their second album, the Fugees utilize a couple of the mid-'90s trends in hip-hop--cinematic construct and references to Asian fighting techniques. But THE SCORE transcends much of the genre's recent output, because it's as much about musicality as it is about beats. In fact, deep beats often take a back seat to tense, noir grooves. More importantly, all three rappers--Haitian males, Wyclef and Pras, and New Jerseyite female, Lauryn Hill--swing hard, syncopating around the beats like jazz instrumentalists, making THE SCORE a complex and challenging listen.
THE SCORE also boasts some of the most intelligent, non-exclusionary rhymes in recent memory. Wyclef claims to "run through Crown Heights/Screaming out Mazel Tov" and Hill draws parallels between herself and both Nina Simone and Elliot Ness. Too politically astute and musically talented to fall into the ruts of rap cliches and dependence on overused samples, the Fugees are placing a significant, personalized stamp on the direction of hip-hop.
Recorded at The Booga Basement Studio, East Orange, New Jersey; The Crib and Quad Studios, New York, New York; Anchor Recording Studios, Kingston, Jamaica.
Fugees (Refugee Camp): Lauryn Hill, Prakazrel "Pras," Wyclef.
Producers include: Wyclef, Shawn King, Lauryn Hill, Salaam Remi, John Forte.
Additional personnel: Garfield "Gus" Parkinson (vocals); Red Alert, Ras Baraka (spoken vocals); Handel Tucker (keyboards); Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums, programming); John Forte (programming); Backspin (scratches); Forte, Omega, Diamond D, Pace 1, Young Zee, Ra Digga.

| | Goin' Down...The Tubes CDs (2008) (Import) Reissue; United Kingdom
One Rhythm
$17.95 Before the Tubes nabbed an MTV-fueled pop hit in 1983, this art rock group from San Francisco was one of the cultest of cult favorites. Led by the flamboyant and glammy Fee Waybill, the Tubes were initially more a collective of performance artists who came together in music, blending the bizarre with the hilarious, creating a live show that became an underground sensation. A generous double-disc set, GOIN' DOWN...THE TUBES, captures the aura of the act's 1970s incarnation, one of the unique musical forces of the rock era.
2008 digitally remastered reissue of this classic compilation taken from The Tubes' golden period during their time with A&M Records in the late '70's. This double CD takes from all their best loved albums and includes the entire Remote Control album, originally released in 1979 and produced by Todd Rundgren. The CD features five of the band's best known singles: 'White Punks On Dope', 'Don't Touch Me There', 'Prime Time', 'TV Is King' and 'Love's A Mystery (I Don't Understand)'. Cherry Red.

| | Dr Pheelgood RX The Prescription CD (2009)
One Rhythm
$13.15 Phillip Anderson, AKA Dr. Pheel Good, has always had a passion for music. Growing up in Buffalo NY, he has been singing since the age of five. Although at age five, his audience was the church congregation. However, the love and support he received encouraged him to use his talent to inspire others. Even as a young boy his emotions showed when he sang, this touched the heart of people who heard him. Phillip was inspired early on by Stevie Wonder. Determined to sing and be heard, he sang in the church choir and sang in a boys vocal group called Voices From Heaven. Performing with this group allowed him many opportunities to perform at various churches, Gospel Festivals and even a local television morning show.Phillip spent a lot of time listening to music, he even taught himself to play the piano by ear. His mentor at the time, Evertte Benton worked with and encouraged him to practice in his free time. After relocating to Denver with his family in 1996, Phillip right away joined the church choir and became involved with the chorus in high school. Phillip's deep appreciation for music helped to foster and form the style of music he performs today. He is currently lead singer for the band The Atomic Brass Project. The band has had the opportunity to perform at many clubs and outdoor festivals in the Denver, Colorado area. Being a part of "ABP" has allowed Phillip to cover some of his favorite artists including Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Earth, Wind and Fire. Phillip's determination lead him to compete for American Idol where he made it through to the Hollywood rounds on two occasions. The experience of competition has made him more determined and focused on pursing his career as a solo artist. In his first solo project Phillip has been able to combine the sound of R&B and Hip Hop to create a sound that is fresh and commands the perfect dance moves for clubbers. Phillip, along with Rodney Olguin, AKA B.R. the beat Hova, have combined their talents and developed his first CD titled "Rx". This project has a few surprises, the dance beats are hot and the slow jams are thought provoking, sentimental and easy to sing along with. "Rx" is sure to make you PHEEL GOOD!
