It sounds pretty much as you'd expect, especially given the cover art, but this collision of Bakersfield country music and traditional Christmas material has a certain charm that's most apparent on the down-home versions of "Blue Christmas" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," and perhaps less perceptibly so in Merle Haggard's sly vocal on the title track. The Spanish guitar of "El Nino" is charming, while Haggard's inclusion of the stark "If We Make It Through December" is a timely reminder of the stresses that Yuletide hardship can bring.

Dorian Gray's Eternal Lament - We pick up where Dorian left off on the debut Phantom's Opera album..Thunderbird - On route 35 in Mantaloking, NJ there used to be a huge hotel right on the beach with a huge Thunderbird symbol as its sign - I was always drawn to it. My Mom was a cocktail waitress there, and many hours were spent as a little kid playing in the pool, stealing cherries from the bar, and sneaking into the night club to see live bands. Many years later while roaming in Hollywood I got a Thunderbird tattoo on Sunset Blvd. to remind me of those summer daze. A few months later, Kirk West the road manager of the Allman Brothers Band informed me that the Thunderbird symbol signified power and courage. I have tried to summon the energy of the Thunderbird in this instrumental guitar jam..Caravan - an evocative camel ride in the Middle eastern desert.. Later we'll be entertained in opulent tents by bare mid riffed women in silk scarves..About It - Sometimes the distinction ...
