| | Erik Wollo Red Sky, Blue Guitars CD Erik Wollo Discography of CDs
Tracks like "Blue Sky" and "Sedona" are steeped in the vastness of the American Southwest, with gently echoing solos summoning the spirit of Native American flutes. A highlight is "Red Guitars," which creates an aural river of cascading acoustic ... Full Descriptionenergy. There's an Asian twist to the Flamenco-style guitar on "Destiny," while Wollo's Norwegian sense of irony comes to the fore in all-acoustic covers of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" and "In the Hall of Mirrors." Other nice touches include the bouncing percussion of "Moving" and "Rain Tree"'s ominous clouds of swirling guitar arpeggios. Whether for meditation, massage, or deep headphone voyaging, this is an album that gently parts the mist of time to reveal the lovely, endless vistas within.
Norwegian composer Erik Wollo returns to the New Age guitar sound that made his GUITAR NOVA such a success, with this follow-up to 2003's more ambient EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPE. Some of that album's glistening mystery lingers here (especially on the closing track, "Timeless"), but the guitars are back in full force.
Personnel: Erik Wollo (acoustic 12-string guitar).

Red Sky, Blue Guitars album
$10.15 Judas Priest's 1990 release, PAINKILLER, shows the band returning to ferocious metal after such musical detours as 1986's TURBO. It also proved to be the British band's last outing with original singer Rob Halford. Drummer Scott Travis (ex-Racer X) makes his Priest debut here, while the sound and songwriting is comparable to thrash/speed metal.
The album-opening title track is one of Priest's heaviest and greatest songs (brace yourself ...
| | Erik Wollo Emotional Landscapes CD (2003)
Red Sky, Blue Guitars CD music
$9.69 This is a lovely set of highly moving ambient pieces with shades of rock, jazz, and classical thrown in for good measure. A veritable one-man show, Erik Wollo plays electric and acoustic guitars as well as synthesizers, and he also composes, arranges, produces, and programs. "Metaphor" features spooky interplay between weeping electric guitar and lonely gusts of wind, while "Prism" sounds like a typewriter struggling to compose underwater. Though some of the pieces are dissonant and reminiscent of space music, they aren't cold or distant, rather they contain plenty of emotional, melancholic elements. "Sounds of the Seen" begins with pretty cello melodies (courtesy of guest Liv Frengstad) that grow into complicated electronic passages until ...
| | Gandalf Between Earth And Sky CD (2003)
Red Sky, Blue Guitars music CDs
$13.39 Sweeping and cinematic, this collection captures the gentler side of Austrian composer Gandalf's prog, world, New Age style. Sounds of the auld Europe and the far East meld together in "Echoes from Ancient Dreams" with synths and mellotron conjuring up symphonies of strings and strange swooping birds before giving way to treated vocals and soaring electric guitar. The sound of a single hit of the klavé guides "The Blessing" and "Stardust Dreams" as acoustic guitar and Peter Aschenorenner's dreamy flute move in unison down a river that conjures emotions nostalgic, romantic, and meditative all at once. Harpsichord and chimes add an element of simple majesty in "Peaceful Heart" while the simple, heartbreaking piano line in "Along the Milky Way" serves as a reminder ...

Red Sky, Blue Guitars album
$15.75 The duet album PARIS BLUES finds pianist Gil Evans joining soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy on a program of seven improvisations including a version of Charles Mingus' signature tune "Goodbye Pork-pie hat."
Two veteran avant-gardists get together for a deceptively casual session and wind up with a contemporary jazz masterpiece--one reason being that Gil Evans and Steve Lacy were shrewd enough to choose superior tunes by Mingus (four pieces!) and Duke ("Paris Blues") instead of relying on a few perfunctory heads to noodle away on. Also, the special timbral blend of electric piano and soprano sax (Lacy is still the greatest player since Bechet) lends the sound a hip modern sheen, striking even in 1987. PARIS ...

Red Sky, Blue Guitars music CDs
$11.89 Lo-fi noise punks Time New Viking debuted on Matador Records in early 2008 with their third album, RIP IT OFF. While the band made no attempt to clean up their sound, remaining wonderfully hiss-filled and static-laden, they continued to sharpen their songwriting, with Beth Murphy's keyboards and vocals taking on an increased role. First single ...
