| | Diana Degarmo Blue Skies CD Diana Degarmo Discography of CDs
(6 Customer Reviews)
As proven by the mega-success of Clay Aiken's albums, the runner-up position on AMERICAN IDOL can afford opportunities just as--or even more--significant than those guaranteed by the first-place prize. With Season Three runner-up Diana DeGarmo's debut disc, RCA and label honcho Clive Davis take an Aiken-like approach, surrounding the big-voiced teen with a crack ensemble of veteran studio musicians and a set of songs that fall somewhere between teen-pop and adult-contemporary music. "All I Never Wanted" and "Dream, Dream, Dream" employ shimmering guitar parts reminiscent of U2's the Edge, but are backed by smooth, mid-tempo beats. "Go On and Cry" is a pop-perfect ballad (recalling Berlin's 1986 TOP GUN smash "Take My Breath Away") that allows DeGarmo to showcase the full range and power of her vocals. Throughout, the young Georgia native sings with clarity and authority, emphasizing a pure tone, while forgoing the unnecessary filigree present in many of her contemporaries' work.
American Idol Finalist-3rd Season.

DD Rocks! Who says AI runner-ups can't sing as well as the winners? Diana's voice is clear, soaring and mellow. She can belt out those notes without loss of power and she blends pop and rock with classical music, funk and a bit of country. A great CD for summer. Diana DeGarmo is truly a golden winner. Purchase Blue Skies CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Hilary Duff Metamorphosis CD (2003)
Blue Skies album
$12.59 SANTA CLAUS LANE aside, this is the debut album by the ever-perky Hilary Duff, best known for her title role in the LIZZIE MCGUIRE movie and television series. It's appropriate that one of 2003's "it" girls kicks off her first proper collection of tunes with "So Yesterday," a song that celebrates an assertive present and a bright future. Taking cues from her slightly ...

| | Kelly Clarkson Breakaway CD (2004)
Blue Skies music CDs
$9.75 With 2003's THANKFUL, Kelly Clarkson proved that her AMERICAN IDOL win was no fluke by putting out a solid album of gospel-influenced R&B performed with the panache of a seasoned veteran. In late 2004, the Texas native delivered on the promise of her sophomore record's title, BREAKAWAY, by diving headfirst into alternative-rock-flavored pop of the Avril Lavigne/Michelle Branch variety. Though there are still a few R&B-inspired moments here ("Because of You" is a soulful, string-laced ballad in the best Mariah Carey tradition), most of the album has a much harder edge than fans of THANKFUL would likely expect. In other spots, Clarkson goes the moody chanteuse route, particularly on "Addicted," where she channels the spooky melancholy of Fiona Apple with surprising conviction. Clarkson herself co-writes ...
| | Fantasia Free Yourself CD (2004)
Blue Skies songs
$8.99 The first season of AMERICAN IDOL built up to the final week where Kelly Clarkson won most of the spoils. The second season swiftly closed to a battle between Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, with both achieving superstardom. In its third season, the variety show seemed to result in record deals for almost all of the finalists; however, it was the tough-edged, soulful voice of Fantasia Barrino ...

| | Ballad Of Ric Menck CD (1996)
Blue Skies music CDs
$12.85 Despite the solo billing on this compilation, these songs are collaborations between drummer/singer Menck and longtime partner Paul Chastain, The duo that later gained fame as Velvet Crush. Originally recorded between 1985 and 1990 and released, on a variety of US and UK indie labels, under the names Choo Choo Train and the Springfields, these 11 songs are archetypal late-'80s indiepop.
Menck's breathy, adenoidal voice tops gently strummed electric and acoustic guitars and polite drums. A cover of the Pastels' "Million Tears" is a respectful nod to Menck and Chastain's most obvious influence, but the near-perfect "Are We Gonna Be Alright?" and "Wonder" and "Tomorrow Ends Today," both sides of the Springfields' ...
| | Dreamback: Best Of Anna Domino CD (2004) Import
Blue Skies songs
$13.95 This best-of collection contains 17 Domino songs recorded between 1984 and 1996.
An earlier collection of Anna Domino's work, Favorite Songs From the Twilight Years, surfaced in Canada in 1996, but Dreamback takes the one otherwise unavailable song from there -- the twangy "Dreamback" itself -- to be the penultimate song on this new overview from the LTM label. Released as an adjunct to the label's re-releasing ...
