| | Genesis Platinum Collection CD Genesis Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
From the prog-rock majesty of its Peter Gabriel-fronted era to the smooth pop of its later Phil Collins-helmed years, Genesis created a fascinating catalog that spanned decades. The British group's finest tracks are compiled on this three-disc PLATINUM COLLECTION, which proceeds in (roughly) reverse-chronological order. While the hits are plenty (and mostly featured on the first disc), this thorough set also includes many revered album tracks from Gabriel's wonderfully quirky tenure with the ensemble (see the epic "Supper's Ready" and the lilting "Carpet Crawlers"). Although Genesis fans often fall into distinct Gabriel and Collins camps, this comprehensive set provides a solid bridge across the two notably different periods.
Genesis: Phil Collins (vocals, drums); Ray Wilson (vocals); Mike Rutherford (guitar, bass guitar); Anthony Phillips, Steve Hackett (guitar); Tony Banks (keyboards); John Matthew (drums, percussion); Nir Zidkiyahu (drums); Peter Gabriel.

Platinum Collection Music Genesis Platinum Collection Songs Platinum Collection Music Platinum Collection Music Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Transendence I've seen a lot of division between fans of this groups. I know people who would prefer the later day works to that of the Gabreil era, and vice versa. Only track that I've don't really like was Jesus He Knows Me, and should have been filled in with a second track from Calling All Stations. Although it wasn't their best disc, Ray Wilson did a good job.
Otherwise, the collection is well chosen, strongly reprsenting what has been done under the Genesis banner. It's not for a fan locked in one era of the band's history Submitted by Gary (Montreal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Buyer Beware! Great collection or not - of the 40 songs, a great many are "remixed" by Nick Davis - 23 to be exact. And most of them are the older tracks. It seems disingenuous to call these "original versions", even if they are not re-recordings. (Davis co-produced the "We Can't Dance" album.) This is not mentioned in the CD description above, but I think it should be noted. Submitted by Buzz (Houston TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Three of a Perfect Pair! A Great Disc! A Good Disc! And a FREE Frisbee! Not in that order! What more could one ask for? Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good... Well done job, all 3 CDs are great, the remixes are well done, but the error? the songs, why an Edit of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and not the complete?, why that sh*t of Calling All Stations and not Down and Out? why Many Too Many and not Silver Rainbow? why A Trick of the Tail and not Dreaming While You Sleep? and why Carpet Crawlers and not In The Cage? all these songs are garbage, crap, specially Calling All Stations and the tired voice of Ray Wilson, it will be better if the songs I said were puted there instead of the others, but anyway there are good songs like No Son of Mine, I Can't Dance, Land of Confusion, Home By The Sea, Second H.B.T.S., Illegal Alien, Paperlate, Keep It Dark, Turn It On Again, In That Quiet Earth, Ripples, Firth of Fifth and The Musical Box, so, buy it anyway if you are a fan of the band and you want to hear some good songs on 3 CDs. A BETTER GENESIS? I have just read the review submitted by "bettergenesis" regarding the Genesis triple C.D, The platinum Collection.
Why can't people let bands evolve into other directions?. I loved the Gabriel era of Genesis, but I didn't like everything they did with him in the band.Likewise with Phil Collins.
I absolutely loved the albums, A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. But I would never expect them to keep pumping out similar sounding albums one after the other. When Steve Hackett left, obviously their sound would have to change! Its all part of growing!
No, I don't like ALL the songs they have put out since DUKE. However, I can appreciate that they wanted to explore other sounds and styles.
The Invisible Touch C.D is a powerful and diverse selection of music! For me I Can't Dance is nowhere near as strong, but has some tracks that I always play! Calling All Stations deserved more attention and air play, than what it got.
I guess at the end of the day, the C.D buying public by this stage, thought that Phil Collins WAS Genesis, and vise versa!
To those who wanted Genesis to always stay locked in the 1970's, I say this.
Get over it! That was then, and this is now!
The band has given its listeners a panorama of musical feasts over the years, and we should be grateful that they were not prepared to be pigeon-holed into just one musical catagory.
If I had been putting together this three C.D set. I would have omitted Illegal Alien, Jesus he Knows Me,and Paperlate. In their place I would have had, Match of the Day, Its Yourself and Not About Us.
Apart from that, this selection gives our ears a good idea of what Genesis were about, over All those years! Submitted by glenn (SYDNEY. AUSTRALIA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Platinum Collection album
$9.58 The second Glee soundtrack throws a bone to the show's supporting characters, with Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) singing her first solo and Amber Riley (Mercedes) receiving a larger chunk of airtime. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison continue to steal the show, though; Morrison delivers one of the album's most inventive songs with a mash-up of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Young Girl," while Michele sings the absolute pants off of everything the producers give her. The album sometimes strays away from choral arrangements and focuses on individual actors, but it's hard not to sing along with a song like "Jump," ...

| | Gov't Mule By A Thread CD (2009)
Platinum Collection music CDs
$11.89 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front and center, his guitar screaming, his big throaty growl hammering down lyrics like a Southern fire-and-brimstone preacher with earthshaking soul. The material on this set is tight; ...
| | Michael Jackson Bad CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Platinum Collection songs
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I ...
