The 76 minute DVD version contains extra-high resolution stereo master mixes of all 16 tracks as well as two videos, "Harvest Moon" and "Rockin' In The Free World" plus photos, web links and other bonus features including multiple viewing angles.
All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
How does one represent the career of one of the most distinctive, powerful singer/songwriters of the 20th century in the space of a single CD? By keeping it simple and sticking to the milestones. That's exactly what GREATEST HITS accomplishes, by presenting 16 of Neil Young's most beloved compositions. The gritty, fuzz-guitar fury of Young's work with Crazy Horse ("Cinnamon Girl," "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]") brushes up against the acoustic-based, country-tinged "Old Man" and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," as well as haunting, soul-baring ballads such as "The Needle and the Damage Done." Few would deny that the 1970s were Young's richest decade, and this collection strongly focuses on those years, skipping most of Young's genre-hopping '80s albums and grandfather-of-grunge '90s recordings, but the gems from those years would make a rewarding sequel to this concise, sterling anthology.
This package includes 16 selections spanning his entire career sing 1969, plus original stereo master mixes (for highest resolution listening), photo gallery, lyrics, music videos, and weblinks in Dolby stereo and linear PCM.
Personnel: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica); J.J. Cale, Nicolette Larson (vocals); Frank "Poncho" Sampedro, Nils Lofgren (guitar); Billy Talbot (bass guitar); James Taylor , Linda Ronstadt (background vocals); Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Stray Gators. $24.29 Taking the place of the obligatory cd two-fer of GP and GREVIOUS ANGEL, Gram Parsons's THE COMPLETE REPRISE SESSIONS covers it all and then some for Grampires of all stripes. Produced by Emmylou Harris and Parsons cohort James Austin, this beautifully designed three-disc set includes one disc devoted to each solo record and a third featuring outtakes from each album's sessions. With fewer overdubs and Gram and Emmylou's vocals front-and-center in the mix, the final disc brims with the emotive soul and ...
| | David Gilmour CD (1978) Remastered
Greatest Hits album
$6.79 Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely harmonica and, with "No Way" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore," expounds the album's main theme of being trapped in an untenable situation. "Cry From the Streets" is a nod to the blues, while ...

| | Flatt & Scruggs 1964-1969 CDs (1992) (Import) Box Set; Germany
Greatest Hits music CDs
$156.55 6 CDs and book - catching them at the peak of their commercial success (late 1960's), this collection shows how they were taking bluegrass in new & original directions. includes "The Story Of Bonnie & Clyde", "Beverly Hillbillies", singles that have neve
The final five years of the team of Flatt & Scruggs is documented on the six-CD Bear Family set 1964-1969, Plus. Their final six recordings together are on a Lester Flatt box set on the same label (Flatt on Victor Plus More, Bear Family 15975). Though the pair never referred to themselves as bluegrass musicians -- because of its association with their mentor, Bill Monroe -- they had a difficult time telling the ever-increasing flood of international fans just what it was they did. Certainly it was folk music, but not the folk music of the folk revival of the late '50s and early '60s, and it was country music, though not what Owen Bradley and Chet Atkins was pushing through Nashville at the time, and while a lot of the music was rooted in blues and gospel, it couldn't be called ...

| | Juliana Theory Small Noise. CD (2006) Enhanced CD
Greatest Hits CD music
$11.69 Being billed as a "best-of" compilation for the Juliana Theory, A Small Noise is not exactly the career-spanning collection of hits that listeners might expect. Thus, to serve as a better album guide, this record shall henceforth be titled, at least for this review, "Best of the Juliana Theory: The Tooth and Nail Years (1999-2001)." After all, songs from only three of the band's previous releases are accounted for here, and all three -- Understand This Is a Dream, Emotion Is Dead, and the EP, Music from Another Room -- were released during their time with Tooth and Nail. If one can look past the slight detail that Love and Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat are ignored altogether, this track listing isn't necessarily a bad thing -- after all, some of the Theory's most-loved songs came out of these earlier albums -- it's just a bit limited. Moving past this discrepancy, the tracks are situated on the record in chronological order per album and all the ...
