The first season of AMERICAN IDOL built up to the final week where Kelly Clarkson won most of the spoils. The second season swiftly closed to a battle between Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, with both achieving superstardom. In its third season, the variety show seemed to result in record deals for almost all of the finalists; however, it was the tough-edged, soulful voice of Fantasia Barrino that finally overwhelmed the judges.
Recording simply as Fantasia, the young singer with the powerful and richly seductive style debuts with FREE YOURSELF, a collection showing off her immense range, as she tries her hand (and excels) at many different types of music. She opens with the classic, mournful soul of "Ain't Gon' Beg You," followed by back-to-back 1970s-inspired songs, the title track and "Truth Is." Fantasia has certainly mastered the treat-me-right R&B ballad, but she also shows a different side on her traditional rendition of the jazz standard "Summertime." On the other end of the spectrum, she doesn't slip when served with a Jazze Pha hip-hop background on "Don't Act Right." To win AMERICAN IDOL, Fantasia had to be proficient in many genres, and FREE YOURSELF reveals her victory to be no fluke.

oh my goodness....what a powerhouse!Im so glad you were discovered and America loves you soooo much, I get so fully enveloped in your lyrics and phrases,that i tend to forget that she brings out the vulnerability in me especially when she sings"TRUTH IS"just finding my old love and i still feel the same way!Thanks Fantasia for renewing my heart and soul. tony

Fantastic Fantasia!
Excellent album!The stand out turnes for me are 'Good Lovin', 'Free yourself' and 'This is me' The others are good too but I wished that there had been more tunes like 'Good Lovin'
Fantasia's voice is fantastic and she handles the songs with a professional skill that even people who have been singing for years would give an arm and a leg for!
However to be honest I do think that some of the songs that are on the album are not up to the standard of Fanatsia's talent. There is no denying that the girl has the pipes but some of the songs fall a bit flat more me. Fantasia does however manage to give them that oomph that is very much needed. I know it is early days yet but I am already eagerly awaiting some new music from Fantasia and I hope it won't be too long coming.
Go Fantasia! She gets 5***** frome me for her voice alone.

Clive's choice of people to work with Fantasia was truly expected and exceptional. Being a North Carolinian, I am very proud of the message in her music and of course that dynamic voice just stands out!
