Jesse Davis! / Ululu Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  Supurb!
2 of 3 known solo albums realeased here on 1 CD. Reno Street Incident tells the same story as Leon Russell's Shootout at the Plantation. While no great vocalist who could forget "...she felt my change, said how much you got? I said about 35 cents I think." Awesome guitar. Anyone who loves the first 3 Taj Mahal records has to have these 2. A backup lineup including Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and Dr. John only adds to the fun. If you like Taj's Six Days on the Road you'll love Jesse's White Line Fever! Wanna hear a much different version of the Band's Strawberry Wine? Slide guitar like you'll never forget. I swear to God that Farther on down the road is better than Taj's. And that's saying a lot. Enjoy.

Jesse Ed Davis was one of the best guitarist out of the golden era of rock. This great CD shows off what the John Lennon, George Harrison, Nilson, Jackson Browne, and hundreds of other knew. One great example was his one-take solo on Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes". Jesse knew how to add just what a song needed and nothing more. Jesse is no longer with us, but at least we have his music to groove to.

Taking the place of the obligatory cd two-fer of GP and GREVIOUS ANGEL, Gram Parsons's THE COMPLETE REPRISE SESSIONS covers it all and then some for Grampires of all stripes. Produced by Emmylou Harris and Parsons cohort James Austin, this beautifully designed three-disc set includes one disc devoted to each solo record and a third featuring outtakes from each album's sessions. With fewer overdubs and Gram and Emmylou's vocals front-and-center in the mix, the final disc brims with the emotive soul and earthbound angelic vocals the two perfected. Among the final discs many highlights are looser alternate takes of "She" and "Streets of Baltimore" from GP and a "Hickory Wind" unadorned by the ridiculous fake crowd noise that mars the GRIEVOUS ANGEL version. ...

Born on a Texan farm to hippies (who later converted to Christianity and moved to the suburbs) China Curtiss displayed an uncanny knack for melody at an early age. At 18 months, she began whistling before she could speak in full sentences, and by the time she was 7, she was writing her own piano compositions. After a two-year stint at Vanderbilt\'s Blair School of Music, China ventured out on her own, traveling the world with Youth With A Mission. She finally landed in Denver, CO in 2000, and began teaching music and theater. China had been secretly writing songs ever since she was a little girl (sometimes hiding lyrics in her underwear drawer), and finally in 2002, with the encouragement and production aid of friend, Isaac Slade, began working on her debut album, Gamma Gray. It was also in 2002 that she met her soulmate and musical accomplice, Seth Kent and in 2004, China and Seth were married.
