Many rock bands talk endlessly about their "sound," refining a basic formula until it's either perfect or perfectly boring. System of a Down, however, developed a loyal fanbase with the opposite approach--the group mixes genres so freely that ... Full Descriptiondescribing what their music sounds like is nearly impossible. Sure, SOAD is, at its core, a metal band, but on MEZMERIZE's first two songs alone, vocalist/guitarist/mastermind Daron Malakian and crew zigzag their way though Beach Boys-like stacked vocal harmonies, Anthrax-esque hardcore thrash, Cameo-style funk, and prog rock of a CARESS OF STEEL-era Rush variety. "Revenga" adds a touch of swooping Freddie Mercury vocal drama to the mix, while "Sad Statue" sports a guitar riff that sounds like a Greek bouzouki. Even sharper, tighter, and more ambitious than System of a Down's previous albums, MEZMERIZE makes for a consistently surprising listen.

Although I still think System of a Down's first album was the best this one is good too. Its not as heavy as the first SOAD album but it has its moments. B.Y.O.D is really heavy and is a great song. Because of songs like Revenga, This Cocaine Make Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, Violent Pornography, Question, and Lost in Hollywood this is a close second to the first album. I recommend before you buy this to sample thier first album because it is truely better. Submitted by Clint (Aurora, NE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

I LOVE IT! I first started listening to System when B.Y.O.B. came out on the radio and decided to buy Mezmerize and loved it. The best songs are B.Y.O.B., Cigaro, and Violent Pornagraphy. After that I decided that I needed more, so I bought Toxicity and that was great too, but I think Mezmerize would be a better choice. Rock On! it's okay old system was definently the best. And you have to agree with justin c. down their about their music being simple.also It's annoying to have politics shoved down your throt constantly.I have to admit though their guitar tabs are great when your a begginnig guitarist.simple but not mary had a little lamb simple.Half the songs on this cd are pretty cool and fun though.Like revenga and violent pornagraphy. Mezmerize album
$7.59 System of a Down sees itself as being an integral part of a new musical revolution of heavy music. On the surface, the band's manifesto seems tangential to Rage Against the Machine's; but musically SOAD is a groove-metal machine, with a sound that incorporates a punk ethic, Panteraesque riffs, and a schizophrenic vocal approach reminiscent of Mike Patton.
Like a dose of chicken soup for a disconnected moshing youth, SYSTEM OF A DOWN is unrelenting. "Sugar" segues from neo-jazz verses into pounding thrash-core choruses. "Spiders" shows more depth, dynamics, and even poetic, melodic vocals. The production of the album is raw and very close to that ...

$9.29 "Chop Suey!" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
"Aerials" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance.
While System of a down are often cast with the nu-metal crowd, their sound is closer to '80s thrash (and even hardcore punk) than to any of the rap-metal hordes. Grinding guitars and death-knell drums may be the order of the day, but they work in service of a highly developed socio-political consciousness. In fact, when he's not lacerating his vocal cords, singer Tankian delivers his rebellious lyrics in a tone reminiscent of infamous Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra. Make no mistake, the thrash quotient on TOXICITY is high enough to satiate even the hungriest headbanger, ...

$7.59 STEAL THIS ALBUM contains outtakes and previously unreleased tracks.
Even considering the enormous popularity of nu-metal in the late '90s and early '00s, the initial mass commercial acceptance of System Of A Down was pretty surprising. On STEAL THIS ALBUM! the wildly eclectic group ...
| | Audioslave Out Of Exile CD (2005)
Mezmerize songs
$10.39 OUT OF EXILE presents a band that has grown comfortably into its own skin. Three years after Audioslave's highly successful debut, the supergroup crafted a truly formidable rock album with a fresh, live-in-the-studio rawness. Former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello rolls back the distortion subtly, playing with a notably more melodic touch, best evidenced on "Heaven's Dead" and "Dandelion." Soundgarden's Chris Cornell's weathered voice at times walks a perilous ledge, yet never to a fault--that very danger and heartfelt soulfulness are part and parcel of ...

Mezmerize album
$16.75 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Just when it seemed that System of a Down couldn't do anything to improve on their standing as the most unique and ambitious band in the alternative metal world, they decided to drop their sprawling, Rick Rubin-produced double album by releasing each disc separately. Early 2005 saw the arrival of MESMERIZE. After that album gained significant exposure via tours, radio, and videos, the album's counterpart, HYPNOTIZE, was released ...

Mezmerize CD music
$14.95 Ruffians was born out of friendship and the mutual musical interests of its founding members Craig Behrhorst (Guitar/Background Vocals), Luke Bowman (Drums) and Chris Atchison (Guitar/Background Vocals). The band debuted at the famed San Francisco punk rock venue the Mabuhay Gardens in December ₄83. Soon after, the band changed their line-up and recruited long time friend Dan Moura on bass. It then became evident that the group was in need of a stronger front man who would be able to take them to the next level. After placing numerous ₓvocalist wanted₠ads and too many auditions to count, they finally found a singer/front-man in that of Carl Albert. Management and Band agreed that Carl was the stuff that legends are made of₦ and just in the nick of time. The band was scheduled to play a gig in less than 2 weeks opening up for Alcatrazz at the Kabuki Theatre in San Francisco.Hailing from the mountain town of Sonora California, Carl was more than anyone could ask for. With the dual guitar sound of Craig and Chris along with Luke₄s powerhouse drumming, Carl₄s powerful and melodic vocals had given the band the sound they had been looking for. Ruffians then hit the Bay Area club circuit with a bang! Ruffians played many shows throughout 1984 and were definitely on their way, securing support slots for bands such as Loudness, Y&T, Dokken, U.F.O., Saxon, and Savatage. The band began to headline shows throughout the Bay Area, as well as co-headline shows with their hometown friends Exodus, Death Angel, and Vicious Rumors. In 1984 Ruffians recorded a 4-track demo tape featuring the tracks ₓFight For Your Life,₠Wasteland,₠ₓBad Boys Cut Loose,₠and ₓEyes of Fire.₠The demo was well received in the States and abroad, by Fans and the Metal Press alike. However, Ruffians were neither a ₓbig hair₠band nor were they thrash metal. They were a difficult act to sell to the major label executives at the time. This was the early days of heavy metal, prior to the genre becoming part of the mainstream as it is today. As such, Ruffians₄ management decided to take matters into their own hands by forming it₄s own label, Victory Records, to release the band₄s debut album. In January 1985 Ruffians entered Studio D in Sausalito, California to lay down tracks for the six-track Mini-LP. Released in May, the EP was quickly picked up by over 200 College radio stations in the United States as well as charting in Europe and Japan. The EP received great reviews from the international and domestic press, and the band₄s fan base grew much larger.Sublicensed to SPV/Steamhammer in Germany and FEMS in Japan, the album was released in vinyl format and later on Compact Disc. These have become highly collectable items over the years. Whiplash Records in Belgium also released it as a limited edition on vinyl. ₓRun For Cover₠was released on a Restless Record₄s Compilation, ₓEastern Front-Live at Ruthie₄s Inn;₠and ₓWasteland₠was featured in a major motion picture, American Ninja II, a cable TV classic still to this day. Despite all this, Carl felt the need to move back home and join Villian at the close of 1985. Villian was a band made up of his ...
