Rolling Stone (No. 968, p.72) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "[GRANT STREET] is crawfish Cream, peppered with zydeco snap..." Down Beat (p.76) - 3 1/2 stars out of 5 - "[H]is amazing slide-palm-and-fingers technique gives a sense of thoughtful preparation and construction." Dirty Linen (p.47) - "Landreth's voice is a nice strong addition to his guitar pyrotechnics, and he can handle a steely-eyed blues like 'Wind in Denver,' as well as the occasional quiet number." Sonny Landreth Grant Street Songs Grant Street Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews EC was there I attended the Saturday night show at Grant Street Dancehall. The most creative guitarist of my generation still alive. I have attended about 20 Landreth shows and this was the most intense performance of his that I have seen. Killer and EC was there for the Saturday show. Submitted by magoo (Ponchatoula, La) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
I wish this was on DVD too! amazing live recording. flawless.
I only wish they would have had the video cameras rolling too. The band is amazing. the drummer lays down some nasty grooves for sonny's fantastic playing. highly recommended. Submitted by jeff (Arizona, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Recommended by a friend...Thanks Joanie!!! Up until now I have never heard of Sonny Landreth.Usually it takes me a while to get used to a new artist but after hearing "Grant Street" for the first time there was an instant connection. This guy can flat out play the guitar and yet it seems as though he is rock and blues best kept secret.
This CD has it all, from rockers like "Native Stepson", "USS Zydecosmobile" (my personal favorite.) to blusey songs like "Broken Hearted Road",and "Wind in Denver" just to name a few. There isn't one bad song here, definately worth the money and then some.
After hearing this CD I can't wait to see him in concert. Submitted by Phil (Mentor,Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.

When Gov't Mule bassist Allen Woody passed away, bandmates Warren Haynes and Matt Abts chose to go forward to keep the memory of their friend alive. Rather than initially replacing Woody outright, they instead invited a number of famous bass players who were both friends and influences on their friends to play on a two-part ...

| | Joe Bonamassa You & Me CD (2006)
Grant Street album
$13.85 Despite his statement in the liner notes that "In an era where it is best to play it safe, I chose to take a risk...," there isn't much surprising or risky about young guitarist Joe Bonamassa's fifth studio album. Most of his previous releases have mixed blues covers with his own originals, all played with a rocker's attitude, volume and less-than-subtle approach. This one follows suit and even though he goes on to say that he "wanted to make a blues album, not a rock album that has blues on it," as in the past; it's impossible to claim that he has succeeded with You & Me. That doesn't make this a bad or disappointing disc; quite the contrary, it's a solid blues-rock release and arguably his best work to date. But as early as the second track, an original rocker titled "Bridge to Better Days," Bonamassa takes off on an early Free/Savoy Brown-styled stomper. Things settle down ...

| | Quintron Are You Ready For An Organ Solo? CD (2003)
Grant Street CD music
$11.29 Quintron returns with more subversive, more than slightly sleazy fun on Are You Ready for an Organ Solo?, one of three albums he released in 2003. By now, his modus operandi -- howled baritone vocals, insistently dumb beats, cheerleader-style backing vocals courtesy of Miss Pussycat, and of course, organs and analog synths galore -- is well-known, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining. Tracks like "Place Unknown," "The Beach," and "Teenage Antoinette" are electro-garage rave-ups that should be the life of any happening party, while "Miniature Breakdown" is a dancefloor stormer that is about as straightforward as Quintron gets (which is to say, not very). However, ...

Grant Street music CDs
$9.25 Dancehall compilations are being given some financial push by the labels in 2004. VP's Reggae Gold 2004 got picked up by major label Atlantic, who in turn bought plenty of late-night TV ads, and Greensleeves bought plenty of print advertising for their Ragga Ragga Ragga 2004. All this ...
| | Prefects Amateur Wankers CD (2004)
Grant Street songs
$12.39 The Prefects' sole recorded legacy at the time of existence consisted of two John Peel sessions, but it's that plus a couple of extra tracks that makes up this really enjoyable overview of a band that was at once somewhat high profile and perhaps one of the most obscure punk-era acts in the U.K. It might be a stretch to say that the Prefects would have been the natural rivals/counterparts of Wire, but there's enough evidence here to show that had they continued they might well have made their own Chairs Missing eventually. The two sessions are mixed together, in a nice change from the usual method of presentation, and sequenced to make a brief but memorable listen. The opening rips "Faults" and "Escort Girls," both under two minutes long, demonstrate how the band was very much a product of its era, with quick, slogan-chorus arrangements and ...
