BRENDA's still COMIN ON STRONG! If you recall the earlier hits of Miss Dynamite, give a listen to this collection! What a great treat! Recently redone, the voice is a strong as ever, yet on these wonderful ballads,a more mature sound. The arrangments behind are her vocals are fab. She still proves she can rock with the best of 'em in Coming on Strong,Dum,Dum,And Sweet Nothing's. No wonder this lady is the worlds best selling female vocalist. If your a Brenda Lee fan this is a MUST for your collection, if your not, you will be after hearing this! Way to go Miss Dynamite..your still the BEST! 16 Greatest Hits album
$8.79 Released for the occasion of Johnny Cash's 78th birthday, American VI: Ain't No Grave is the final installment in the collaboration between Cash and Rick Rubin that began with 1994's American Recordings. These ten songs were cut during the same sessions for American V: A Hundred Highways. Guitarists Mike Campbell, Matt Sweeney, Smokey Hormel, and Benmont Tench on keyboards were present, as were other musicians. June Carter Cash died during routine surgery during these sessions. Cash, though grief stricken and with full knowledge that he too was dying due to complications from Parkinson's disease, worked as often as his health would allow. He died three months after these songs were recorded. Ain't No Grave is an elegiac and deeply spiritual album, a formal goodbye without regret from a man and an artist of almost mythic stature. The song selection is rooted in the Americana, folk, country, and gospel traditions. There is an excellent reading of Tom Paxton's "Wonder Where I'm Bound" that doesn't feel as lost as the original, but more a statement after reflecting on a life ...
| | Gary Allan Get Off On The Pain CD (2010) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
16 Greatest Hits CD music
$11.19 On his eight studio album, Get Off on the Pain, California honky tonk hero Gary Allan digs deep in the soil of human emotion and comes up with a handful of diamonds. Allan, one of the few authentic artists to come out of Nashville since country music turned into a giant money machine, is as real as they come. Never a trend follower, Allan -- who for the most part has steered clear of cheese-filled songwriting fodder -- keeps getting better with age. Get Off on the Pain is a well-crafted, ten-song collection that, to steal a well-worn phrase, is all killer and no filler. The gritty and grinding title track, a thundering number that finds Allan examining his fondness for a lifestyle that has left him with more than a few scars on his heart, body, mind, and soul, sets the tone for the entire disc. This isn't music for Sunday mornings; it's not all ...

| | Marty Robbins Ruby Ann: Rockin' Rollin' Robbins, Vol. 3 CD (1991) (Import) Germany
16 Greatest Hits music CDs
$21.15 Although the vast bulk of Marty Robbins' rockabilly sides were made in a concentrated period in the mid-'50s, the impulse to rock resurfaced now and then in the 1960s -- and he did some of his best rock & roll work then in fits and starts. Vol. 3 of the Rockin' Rollin' Robbins series gathers ten tracks released on singles and two alternate takes -- and yes, the best of them do rock in a smooth, Nashville manner. Side one contains most of the gold -- "No Signs of Loneliness Here," the insistent hit single "Ruby Ann," "While You're Dancing," and maybe the best one of all, "Teenager's Dad," where Robbins does an extraordinary job of swinging with a cool, easygoing command of the groove. The unreleased alternate take of "Ruby Ann," made two months after the authorized take, is ...

| | Chicago Jazz CD (2003)
16 Greatest Hits album
$7.55 This sampler from Delmark Records' vast catalog (as part of their 50th anniversary) is a fascinating sampling of what the label has had to offer Chicagoans in particular, and jazz fans in general. The label has assembled ten tracks that cut across all subgenres in jazz, as well as time periods. There are the modern sounds of Barrett Deems' stellar big band playing approximations of postmodern swing, as well as the vanguard tradition represented by Sun Ra and his "Brainville" from Sun Song in 1956, to Art Hodes' now signature classic read of "Basin Street Blues," from 1972. But it doesn't stop there, from AACM member Ari Brown to Malachi Thompson covering the funky soul side of the late Lester Bowie on "We Bop," to Ira Sullivan's trumpet innovations on "Wilbur's Tune," recorded in 1959, to Lin Halliday's gorgeous version of "My Foolish Heart," recorded in 1992. What Delmark offers is a well-rounded portrait of the music as it lives, breathes, develops, and checks itself for references. This is a solid Chicago compilation. ~ Thom Jurek
There's no disputing that the birthplace of jazz is New Orleans, but more than any other city, Chicago was the place where it was nurtured and developed. This CD offers a vivid reflection of Chicago's rich jazz history. Features Barrett Deems Big Band, F
