In 2000, 3 Doors Down achieved major success by adding a rough-and-ready Southern-rock edge to angsty Creed-style neo-grunge. With its third album, SEVENTEEN DAYS, the Mississippi band strips its sound down even further, often adding a grinding, metallic edge. "Right Where I Belong" begins with a de-tuned, serpentine riff that is equal parts Soundgarden and Superjoint Ritual, while "Let Me Go" is a dark, mid-tempo groover reminiscent of Staind's biggest radio hits. "Landing in London" is a weary life-on-the-road ballad that recalls both Kiss's "Beth" and Bob Seger's "Turn the Page," and, in fact, features the Michigan rocker on guest vocals. A collection of memorable songs that finds frontman Brad Arnold addressing themes of alienation and strained relationships in a Ronnie Van Zant-like whiskey-soaked voice, SEVENTEEN DAYS should appeal to those fans who like their arena rock deep-fried.
3 Doors Down: Brad Arnold (vocals, drums); Chris Henderson , Matt Roberts (guitar); Todd Harrell (bass guitar).
Additional personnel: Bob Seger (vocals).

$10.39 "When I'm Gone" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

| | Rob Thomas Something To Be CD (2005) DualDisc
Seventeen Days music CDs
$16.05 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
When Matchbox Twenty's first album became a hit, some critics lumped the band in with flash-in-the-pan rock acts of the day. What these early naysayers missed, of course, is that in vocalist Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty had one of the finest mainstream pop/rock songwriters in the business. Not only did Thomas rack up a string of hits with the Florida group, but he also co-penned "Smooth" from Santana's Grammy-winning 1999 comeback album, SUPERNATURAL.
With SOMETHING TO BE, his solo debut, Thomas pulls out all the stylistic stops, revealing that Matchbox Twenty's alternative-rock format provided a somewhat limited forum for his considerable talents. "Lonely No More" mixes an insistent dance beat with an insanely catchy chorus ...

| | James Taylor In The Pocket CD (1976)
Seventeen Days CD music
$13.95 "Shower The People," with its richly textured vocal harmonies, opens James Taylor's "IN THE POCKET and sets the tone for all that follows, a virtual pop vocal chorale. Choir boy Art Garfunkel takes a lush guest turn on "A Junkie's Lament" and "Captain Jim's Drunken Dream." On his satiric anthem to the almighty dollar "Money Machine," James is joined by vocal dancing partner Valerie Carter, and they move across the song like a funked-out Fred and Ginger. David Crosby, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, and James' brother Alex all drop by to lend a voice throughout the album. But the guest of honor has to be Stevie Wonder, who co-wrote "Don't Be Sad 'Cause Your Sun Is Down" with James, and contributes his always delightful and distinctive chromatic harmonica. IN THE POCKET is fresh, musically diverse, and fun, handily produced by Russ Titleman and Lenny Waronker.
Recorded at Warner Bros. Recording Studios, North Hollywood, California.

| | Super Funk CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Seventeen Days music CDs
$17.35 SuperFunk's a solid compilation of obscure funk from the late '60s and '70s, seven of the 20 songs making their first appearance on any release, though it's not up to the same level as the best work by the best practitioners of the style. Denise LaSalle is the best-known artist here, which gives you some idea of how deeply the compilers journeyed into the vaults. There's a satisfying variety to the selections as well, including instrumental workouts, tough emotional female vocals, and kinda goofy things like Larry & Tommy's previously unissued "Here Comes the Judge." James Brown, to no one's surprise, casts a long shadow ...
