Tremendous energy as usual with this band that I've been listening since the beginning of Scott's solo albums ! I simply regret live tracks sound too similar to studio ones. Anyway, the music played by these guys remain one of the more enjoyable ever.

I went to see Scott Henderson in Phila., a few years ago, and it was small venue. No one was there yet, so I just walk in and walked around looking at some pictures on the walls. Then, Scott, walked in from a back room holding a red Strat looking thing and a handful of strings. He sat down and started putting them on the red thing. I began talking to him as if I knew him: What do you think of Kazumi Watanabe?" "Do you like your first three TT albums on Passport?" He liked Kazumi, but hates the first three TT records "way to contrived..." "Oh, I hate that tight formulaic style, I like things to happen as they happen" (or words very close to that). Anyway, he was very easy to to talk with, and more that happy to give of his time--no one would know what was going to happen in the next hour--oh my God!!!
Well, if he likes loose, fairly open jams, with a little foundation to get it moving, he really go it right on this double live set. It is scary good! This is the kind of set that makes me want to turn up the volume in my car and blow away the rappers in their 28 inch rim Hummers (and I have the system to do it)!!!
But seriously, Henderson's music is (and don't try this a home, kids) to be played at eye bleed levels. I know, I know, we are supposed to know better than that in 2005, but this is the one exception--what the hell, once would get you hooked (said the drug pusher).
This has got to be the most out there, high energy, shamless fusion (thank you, Scott), all American power hungry, git box music to come down the pike (w/o much warning, by the way) in a long long time. Keep up the good work, Scott! What? I say, keep up the good work!!!

Incredible Henderson. Much melody and rhythm. Much tripping rock-jazz-blues. The band plays and interplays. If you like this style of guitar-oriented music don't miss this record. Is very exciting. Interesting harmonies and all very alive.
A little raw but it's a hot performance!In Spain we say "cachondo". Bassist very supportive to the music. The drummer sings very fine, too.

Legendary pianist Chick Corea remains a towering figure in the world of jazz music, first as a keyboard player for Miles Davis during the trumpeter's groundbreaking BITCHES BREW era in the late-'60s, and then as co-founder (with bassist Stanley Clarke) of the seminal jazz-fusion band Return to Forever. This concert film captures the jazz icon performing at the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival with the Chick Corea Elektric Band, which features Corea on keyboards, John Patitucci on bass, Frank Gambale on guitar, Dave Weckl on drums, and Eddie Marienthal on saxophone. Corea's rhythmic style and uniquely inventive approach to improvisation are on full display in the electrifying two-and-a-half-hour performance, which features live renditions of his 2004 album, TO THE STARS, as well as a selection of older classics such as "Eternal Child," "Spain," and "Blue Miles."
Corea performs at Montreux in 2004 with sidement John Patitucci on bass, Frank Gambale on guitar, Dave Weckl on drums, and Eddie Marienthal on sax. The 2 and a half hour concert was part of the tour for the most recent Elektric Band album To the Stars, and the first part of the concert is made up of a number of tracks from that album. After the interlude, the band comes back to offer a selection of classic tracks.

Known the world over for their late 70s cross over albums (on the US indie Milestone and which included the jazz funk smash hit 'Jazz Carnival'), in recent years they have reached a wider and younger audience who have discovered the group either through the brazilian vinyl collector's scene or through their new recordings.Few people, however, are aware of just how many albums the group that came to be called Azimuth have recorded. Also known as Azymuth, (to avoid conflict with the european group on ECM) the band renamed themselves after a Marcos Valle composition on the soundtrack to 'Veu de Noiva' - the 1970 'telenovela' on Brazil's TV Globo. Even most collectors think that the group started life as the Apolo IV group on this soundtrack. The reality is that the group goes back much further - to the late 60s - and had a variety of names even before Apolo IV.This album on Equipe is one of the earliest incarnations of the group and features the members who still perform as Azymuth to this day - keyboard player José Roberto Bertrami, bassist Ivan (Mamão) Conti and drummer Alex Malheiros, joined here by a guitarist, Frederico. Although the sound on this record is more 'acoustic' - piano and electric organ feature heavily - the music is instantly identifiable as the Azymuth sound and the tones and textures created are as complex as any of the later synth-led albums.São Paulo-born Bertrami turned up in Rio in the late 60s with his musician brother Claudio and soon began to play with a wide variety of musicians. Ivan played alongside Edson Lobo in The Youngsters (who recorded on the soundtrack to Marcos Valle's 'Pigmaleão 70') and later at the legendary nightclub Drink, whilst Alex grew up around musicians like Sergio Mendes and once had a duo with Egberto Gismonti! Bertrami and the guys acted as a kind of house band for Equipe and recorded on a number of albums with other artists such as Candeia, Paulo Moura and others. Label head Oswaldo Cadaxo gave the band studio time which allowed them to develop as a group and from this 'woodshedding' emerged the two Equipe albums, 'Zé Roberto & Projecto III - Encontro', and 'O Trio - Projecto III' (to be reissued on whatmusic.com in 2003). Later Bertrami and his cohorts became the house band of another independent label: CiD.As a unit, Bertrami, Malheiros & Conti, have recorded on hundreds of projects and the group themselves have made albums under many names, mostly for the easy listening market or 'discotheque-sound' cash-in projects. But even these albums show off the consummate taste and subtle interplay that featured on the band's record releases under their new name, Azymuth, and many of these LPs are now rare collector's titles in their own right.Translation of the original liner notes:With this LP, Zé Roberto and his comrades put themselves at the service of brazilian popular music - definitively.
