Scott Henderson Live! Songs Live! Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews GLAD THEY'RE BACK !!! Tremendous energy as usual with this band that I've been listening since the beginning of Scott's solo albums ! I simply regret live tracks sound too similar to studio ones. Anyway, the music played by these guys remain one of the more enjoyable ever. Submitted by korjanevski.jeremie (Bordeaux, France) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The shy Scott Henderson I went to see Scott Henderson in Phila., a few years ago, and it was small venue. No one was there yet, so I just walk in and walked around looking at some pictures on the walls. Then, Scott, walked in from a back room holding a red Strat looking thing and a handful of strings. He sat down and started putting them on the red thing. I began talking to him as if I knew him: What do you think of Kazumi Watanabe?" "Do you like your first three TT albums on Passport?" He liked Kazumi, but hates the first three TT records "way to contrived..." "Oh, I hate that tight formulaic style, I like things to happen as they happen" (or words very close to that). Anyway, he was very easy to to talk with, and more that happy to give of his time--no one would know what was going to happen in the next hour--oh my God!!!
Well, if he likes loose, fairly open jams, with a little foundation to get it moving, he really go it right on this double live set. It is scary good! This is the kind of set that makes me want to turn up the volume in my car and blow away the rappers in their 28 inch rim Hummers (and I have the system to do it)!!!
But seriously, Henderson's music is (and don't try this a home, kids) to be played at eye bleed levels. I know, I know, we are supposed to know better than that in 2005, but this is the one exception--what the hell, once would get you hooked (said the drug pusher).
This has got to be the most out there, high energy, shamless fusion (thank you, Scott), all American power hungry, git box music to come down the pike (w/o much warning, by the way) in a long long time. Keep up the good work, Scott! What? I say, keep up the good work!!! Submitted by herpfauna (Elkins Park, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

nutritive blues-jazz-rock Incredible Henderson. Much melody and rhythm. Much tripping rock-jazz-blues. The band plays and interplays. If you like this style of guitar-oriented music don't miss this record. Is very exciting. Interesting harmonies and all very alive.
A little raw but it's a hot performance! In Spain we say "cachondo". Bassist very supportive to the music. The drummer sings very fine, too. Submitted by Nycetto (Ferrol, Spain) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Sonny Boy Williamson His Best CD (1997) Chess 50th Anniversary Collection
Live!
$8.49 The definitive HIS BEST collects some of Sonny Boy Williamson's finest work from his tenure at Chess Records, a period widely conceded to be his most artistically fruitful. He's backed by a who's who of Chicago blues musicians, in particular the astonishingly metallic sounding two guitar team of Robert Lockwood and Luther Tucker, bassist/songwriter Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters' great pianist Otis Spann, and future Blues Brother Matt "Guitar" Murphy.
Highlights are almost too numerous to mention, but don't miss "Fattening Frogs for Snakes," which features one of Williamson's most metaphorically interesting lyrics. The great harp workout "Bye Bye Bird" has here been thoughtfully remixed for stereo.
This is part of Chess Records 50th Anniversary series.
| | Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybear Tell 'Em What Your Name Is! CD (2009) Digipak
Live!
$8.49 Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears: Joe Lewis (vocals, guitar); Zach Ernst (guitar); David McKnight (tenor saxophone); Ian Varley (Fender Rhodes piano, Clavinet, organ); Bill Stevenson (bass guitar); Matthew Strmiska (drums).
Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears kicked around the indie circuit before landing on Universal's Lost Highway imprint with their self-titled 2009 EP. Shortly after that, they unleashed their first full-length for the label. While those who snapped up the EP may be disappointed to discover that half of its tracks are repeated here, they'll likely be elated to discover how much more there is where those cuts came from. TELL 'EM WHAT YOUR NAME IS! mixes funky, '60s-style R&B, stomping electric blues, and punky, garage-rock aggression in equal parts, creating something akin to a musical meeting of the minds between the North Mississipi Allstars and the Detroit Cobras.
Personnel: Josh Levy (baritone saxophone); Gilbert Elorreaga (trumpet); Leo Gauna (trombone); Jim Eno (drum).
Audio Mixer: Jim Eno.
Audio Remasterer: Jeff Lipton.

| | Eva Cassidy Live At Blues Alley CD (1997)
Live!
$13.39 Singer Eva Cassidy achieved posthumous fame with SONGBIRD, an anthology of her finest moments. During her lifetime, however, Cassidy made a name for herself in Washington, D.C., where she lived and regularly performed. LIVE AT BLUES ALLEY captures Cassidy in her element running through a list of standards like "What a Wonderful World" and contemporary favorites like "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
While Cassidy's choice of material might seem somewhat stock, her singing is anything but. Her clear, guileless voice dazzles in both its technical facility and its emotional expressiveness, and it is easy to hear why she had a dedicated local following (and would have broken through to a wider audience had it not been for her death in 1996). Fans of SONGBIRD should seek out LIVE AT BLUES ALLEY for a taste of Cassidy as she sounded in intimate quarters.
