This 14-song collection features mellow pop tunes from Ian Brown, the Perishers, and others. One of the key contributors to THE ULTIMATE CHILLOUT is Sarah McLachlan, who lends a colorful remix of her tune "World on Fire" to this compilation. Containing rainstorm effects, washy electric guitars, and an entrancing drum and bass groove, this song brims with intrigue and portent.
The Postal Service's "Against All Odds" is another highlight on THE ULTIMATE CHILLOUT. Their cover of the 1984 Phil Collins hit begins with a fuzzy, monophonic vocal that abruptly shifts into stereo on the song's bridge; this contrast makes this romantic lyric resonate deeply. San Ilya's version of "Bellissimo" rounds out the release. One of the most beautiful tracks included here, this song features gorgeous orchestral swells, sparkling harp glissandos, and vibrant brass flourishes. All of this is set against the occasional distorted guitar riff and jazzy clarinet line. Unlike many relaxation albums, THE ULTIMATE CHILLOUT is not composed of ambient sounds or minimalist keyboard layers. In contrast, this compilation spotlights a number of creative pop artists whose music stimulates just as much as it relaxes.

$5.95 An air of melancholy and isolation hangs over Hootie & The Blowfish's second major-label album. A similar air hangs over many follow-ups to whopping commercial succeses like Hootie's CRACKED REAR VIEW. But this South Carolina foursome is both too smart to follow that tired path in which stardom begets ennui, and a few miles on the road beget resentment and resignation. The darkness in their existential-pop love songs derives not from the world without, but from souls within. Meanwhile, they craft R&B-soaked folk-rock with the confidence ...

Chillout 06: The Ultimate Chillout music CDs
$18.95 THE BAND. The FinalEs -The missing link between earthy folk and soaring rock. Acoustic guitars and vocals that trance with a psychedelic, jazz, blues feel. The Finales are Rick, Tracy, Dave, Dean and Don from the outskirts of Philadelphia. Raised on local college and commercial radio with a west-coast twist. Their acoustic guitar driven songs converge from 30's jazz/blues, 50's exotica, 60's psychedelic folk and timeless college indy rock.Singer/guitarist Rick Berry's favorite trick is to have his Martin guitar morph in and out from acoustic to electric sounds, grooooovy man, and he likes to dance around a lot while playing his guitar on stage. He's been known to knock over cymbals....too bad he can't dance or it would "really look good". Just kiddin', he can cut a rug. Though, Rick's mood does swing even more than his music, his favorite quote is "I'm not psychotic, I'm just Italian". Singer/guitarist Tracy Berry 's voice has a "Lilith Fair" quality with the characteristic bite of Lucinda Williams but with her own unique style. She likes to press wildflowers and flits around a lot but we don't hold that against her because she's so darn cute and such a damn good writer. She can finger pick that guitar like the dickens and sings like a bird, eats like one too, so feeding her is a rather inexpensive proposition. Drummer Dave "Inertia" Wiesinger is rather stoic and analytical except when he goes off the deep end, and we do have that on tape! Dave doesn't say much, so when he does speak, it's usually worth listening to. The propeller is another story...Keys man Dean Leontidis wants to be rocket propelled down a railroad track while playing keys, ala "Emerson, ...
