Anybody who's anybody in rock has been in a cover band. Although "cover" has a negative connotation, it is the playing of others' material that forges the identity and agenda of future superstars. They combine to give fans a glimpse into the wide variety of influences that have shaped metal's mightiest band.

| | Anthrax Greater Of Two Evils CD (2004)
Hip-Hop Tribute To Metallica
$9.99 If any group deserves to be renowned as "the people's metal band" it is surely Anthrax. With the exciting notion of re-recording a set of their 1980s-era material (when the lineup featured frontman Neil Turbin, followed by longtime singer Joey Belladonna), New York thrash-scene veterans turned to the fans to vote for the songs they wanted to hear interpreted by Anthrax 2004. Taking this ideal of metal democracy even further, Anthrax invited lucky contest winners to join the group as spectators for the sessions.
The result, THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS, is a live-to-tape performance, equally raw and refined, with ...
| | Nirvana With The Lights Out CDs (2004) With DVD; Box Set; Digipak
Hip-Hop Tribute To Metallica
$42.85 "With The Lights Out" includes a DVD as well as a large booklet with pictures and liner notes.
Ten years after the death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana fans finally got what they had been waiting for in the form of 2004's WITH THE LIGHTS OUT, an extensive three-CD/one-DVD box set spanning the deified rock band's career. Part of Nirvana's charm was its gleefully subversive aesthetic, and this trait is heavily featured on Disc One, which begins with a slaughtered version of Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker" at the group's first gig in 1987. Distortion and low fidelity reign on most of these songs (including "Anorexorcist", "Pen Cap Chew," and a demo version of "Even in His Youth"), and Cobain probably wouldn't have had it any other way.
Disc Two covers the band's uneasy transition to superstar status and features the crucial addition of drummer Dave Grohl, whose powerhouse percussion worked perfectly with Krist Novoselic's rumbling bass and Cobain's tortured vocals and fiery guitar playing. In addition to Cobain's solo acoustic tracks and demo versions of well-known songs, ...

$5.95 All songs written by Bela Fleck except "Sex In A Pan" (Victor Lemonte Wooten) and "Seresta" (Howard Levy/Manfredo Fest).
The Flecktones' third release, UFO TOFU, is a classy forward-thinking fusion outing that doesn't merely challenge listeners with technocratic bluster, but engages them with wit, intelligence, dynamic interplay...and a whole lotta heart. And it's a testament to Fleck's maturing talents as a composer and arranger that UFO TOFU doesn't merely project a hodge-podge of novelties and notions, but ...
