Sounding at times like a more laid-back G. Love (without the rap tendencies), Johnson celebrates the simple pleasures and asks the big questions with the childlike innocence that only someone living in a literal paradise could muster. "Banana Pancakes" is a Harry Nilsson-like groover that urges listeners to skip work and enjoy themselves every so often, while "Good People" decries the age of reality television with a poignancy reminiscent of Donovan at his free-spirited best. Perhaps the track that most accurately encapsulates Johnson's unique less-is-more approach, however, is "Belle," a jazzy ditty that clocks in at less than two minutes and lets a swooning accordion tell the bulk of the story.

A former professional surfer and self-proclaimed beach bum, Jack Johnson is an unlikely candidate for rock-star status. Somehow, however, this everyman's mellow pop songs seem to tap into a commonly held desire for the simple life. The formula on IN BETWEEN DREAMS doesn't vary much from Johnson's previous albums, but is no less engaging--delicately strummed acoustic guitar, round bass lines, and gently funky drum patterns form a comforting bed for the Hawaii native's effortlessly soulful R&B-meets-folk vocals.

5 stars Chill musical vibes and fantastic writing
I can't stop listening to this disc since I got it. Johnson's laid back, surfer attitude comes through strong in his music while the lyrics have some deep insight. Mellow, fun, good tunes that should strike a cord in almost everybody. "Banana Pancakes" is great.

one of my favorite albums of all time. simple, beautiful, playable. Cant quite tell which songs i love more? Banana Pancakes, Never know, Better together -- each of those numbers are alone worth the price of the album. highly recommended...

Perfect CD to set the mood as we head off in the VW camper. It has inspired my 9 year old son to play guitar and he now does an excellent rendition of Banana Pancakes. Put Jack Jobhnson on the CD and feel the warm sunshine on your skin.

i found "in between dreams" to be a well crafted collection of tunes that smooths out the bumps of lifes drama... easy listening and very likeable. all the tracks flow with no sour apples in the bunch to my taste. great job, jack

5 stars Only In Dreams
This is, unquestionably the best cd I have purchased in a very long time. Although my cd collection doesn't stray too far from hip hop, I am proud to say, that on hearing this album, I want out and bought all the Jack Johnson albums. If you want my opinion, this is the album of 2005. Current date (15th Jan 2006)
