This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
In the tradition of singers such as Wanda Jackson and Tanya Tucker comes Gretchen Wilson, a self-proclaimed hard-living trailer-park inhabitant with country-rock attitude to spare. The pleasant surprise with Wilson is that, in stark contrast to the streamlined country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill, she doesn't mind getting a bit dirty (musically or otherwise). Though her grassroots ethos clearly plays into her success, it's not a pose: Wilson means what she says, and her country twang, mixed with roots and mainstream rock, packs a punch.
HERE FOR THE PARTY alternates between songs about rural, working-class nightlife (particularly Wilson's love of cowboys, whiskey, and, of course, country music) and its trials and tribulations (romantic heartache and spiritual struggle). The runaway single, "Redneck Woman," waves the banner of the "four-wheel-drive tailgate" and standing "barefoot in my own front yard with a baby on my hip." But where the anthemic choruses of songs such as "Here for the Party" are all bravado, "Holdin' You" and "The Bed" show the vulnerability of a dedicated and jilted lover, respectively. Wilson's range (listen to the gospel-derived "Chariot," complete with a mid-song rap) impresses, and adds to the appeal of a down-home girl that can rip up the honky-tonk and belt out a heartfelt ballad.
This Dualdisc includes the entire triple-Platinum album nomintaed for 4 Grammys. DVD features exclusive interview, music videos, acoustic peroformance, and duet with Hank Williams Jr.

In this dazzling epic from Akira Kurosawa, a petty thief named Kagemusha (Tatsuya Nakadai) gets saved from a death sentence because he resembles the warlord Shingen Takeda (also Nakadai). The warlord has been fighting two other leaders for control of 16th-century Japan and impersonators often take his place during battles to put him out of harm's way. Because of Kagemusha's strong physical similarities to the warlord, he's a perfect choice for a "shadow warrior." While balladeers often celebrate the winter holiday by singing of crowded city sidewalks and decorated storefront windows, country folks celebrate by singing of quieter seasonal pleasures. Released in 1973, Greatest Hits only sums up a handful of years of hitmaking for John Denver, but what years those were. Between 1971 and 1973, Denver actually didn't have that many hits, but they were songs that defined him -- "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Rocky Mountain High," and "Sunshine on My Shoulders." Those three songs, along with "Leaving on a Jet Plane" -- which he wrote but Peter, Paul & Mary made into a standard -- are all here, along with seven other early songs recorded between 1969 and 1973 that may not be familiar to the average casual fan, but all capture Denver's warm folk-pop at its best.
