PATRICIA GRIGGS BURNHAM Received her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where she studied Piano Pedagogy and Performance. She earned a Master of Music Education and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. Dr. Burnham grew up in Virginia Beach, VA where she began her piano study at the age of 6. She has performed as a soloist and accompanist in major cities throughout the United States including the Ambassador Theater in LA and the Wolftrap Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C. Her lifelong friendships with guitarists Charlie Byrd and Carlos Barbosa-lima led to numerous musical collaborations on the concert stage and in the recording studio. In the early 90’s, she collaborated with the Brazilian guitarist Carlos Barbosa-lima. The duo recorded the Sonatina for guitar and piano by Radames Gnattali. This CD for Concord records is the only recording of this work since Laurindo Almeida and Ray Turner teamed up in the 60’s. Composer Bobby Scott wrote several works for the piano and guitar duo which they premiered and performed throughout the US. Dr. Burnham has held University positions at the Catholic University of America, Shenandoah Conservatory and Concordia University at Austin, TX. She has been part of the music faculty at Concordia University in Austin, TX since 1998. Along with University teaching, she also has a private piano studio in Austin, TXwhere she teaches students of all ages. Dr. Burnham is in constant demand as a performer and accompanist.
