Fiend With A Violin
$12.59 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's ...
| | Baroness Blue Record CDs (2009) Limited Edition; Deluxe Edition
Fiend With A Violin
$13.58 Georgia-based psychedelic rock band (calling them a metal act seems very reductive, though there's some seriously headbangable material on this disc) Baroness has made a subtle but unmistakable evolutionary leap on this, their second full-length and a clear companion piece to 2007's RED ALBUM. It's hard to say exactly what new guitarist Pete Adams has brought to the band after replacing drummer Allen Blickle's brother Brian, but ...

| | Flight Of The Conchords I Told You I Was Freaky CD (2009) Digipak
Fiend With A Violin
$12.44 After a glorious first season that earned the HBO show six Emmy nominations, Flight of the Conchords' second run didn't quite pack the same comedic punch. Some would say it was because the premise lost its luster, but it was mostly because the music just wasn't as strong. Most of the songs in Season One were pre-written and hashed out over years of stand-up, and for Season Two, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie were in a time crunch: forced to write a dozen or so funny songs and ten episodes from scratch. Considering the circumstances, FOTC's second Sub-Pop outing, I TOLD YOU I WAS FREAKY, has some worthwhile moments. In the R. Kelly-based "We're in Love with a Sexy Lady," Bret and Jemaine debate semantics while trying to determine if they're after the same lazy-eyed girl. "When'd you meet this lady?/Then./When?/Then./Right then?/Right then./Where?/There./Over there?/Over there./Over there there?/Over there there there," and so on, building up to Bret's ultimate question, "Was her name Brabra?" To which Jemaine replies, No I think it was Barbara."..."It was Barbara there's no such name as Brabra." It's the same straight-faced humor fans have grown to love. There's no satire quite as on-point as their tribute to David Bowie, but the ...

| | Gone In 60 Seconds CD (2000) Original Soundtrack
Fiend With A Violin
$12.19 The soundtrack set behind GONE IN 60 SECONDS, the Nicholas Cage/Angelina Jolie car theft, uh, vehicle, pumps a pulse of pounding pop, funk, soul, electronic and hip-hop. The collection stands as one of the more flowing mixed artist compilations. There's logic in the song order, and at times the album even sounds like a solo artist's.
Kicking off with one of the odder pairings, The Cult makes a stab at a Dianne Warren original, "Painted on My Heart." British jack-of-all-trades Gomez eases its funky "Machismo" right in besides Moby's gospel-tinged "Flower," while Method Man & Redman, one ...
