One Word
$22.19 In 1978, the legendary prog-rock band Jethro Tull descended on Madison Square Garden, unleashing an epic 14-song set that stretched from "Sweet Dream" through "Thick as a Brick" and "Aqualung," and landing on a righteous encore of "Locomotive Breath." This release includes amazing vintage footage of the concert (which was the first U.S. show ever to be broadcast live in the U.K.), as well as a handful of rarely seen photographs from the performance.
2009 remaster of a 1978 show in NYC. CD has 11 tracks. PAL DVD has 14 tracks. 25 tracks.
| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
One Word
$17.58 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful songs wipe away the sins of their previous album, 2005's ROSENROT. The group's loyal fans have remained with them through the '00s and have braved all the difficult but ultimately rewarding efforts that came with it. To them, LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA is the big payoff and an instant classic. For the rest of the world, this is that once a decade, perfectly balanced Rammstein album that's immediately accessible but wide and deep enough to explore for years to come.

| | Timothy B Schmit Expando CD (2009)
One Word
$11.14 Timothy B Schmit launched his solo career late - in 1984, after the Eagles disbanded and right in the thick of the era of shiny, synthesized production. Schmit released three solo albums, all big and glossy, between 1984 and 1991, then reunited with the Eagles in '94, so he never quite had a chance to record an album as relaxed and natural as 2009's EXPANDO. Ditching all the sheen, but not professional panache, that lingered all the way to 2001's FEED THE FIRE, Schmit returns to his country and folk-rock roots here, creating a record that has a clear through line from his early days with Poco, bears echoes of early Crosby Stills & Nash - a resemblance underscored by Graham Nash's occasional guest harmonies and the howling harmonica on "A Good Day" - and clearly is the work of the soft-rock songsmith behind "I Can't Tell You Why."

| | Joe Bonamassa Ballad Of John Henry CD (2009)
One Word
$14.39 Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa gets up to his usual tricks on THE BALLAD OF JOHN HENRY, dabbling in a variety of genres, but injecting them all with a serious dose of guitar heroics. Like his musical forefather Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonamassa is both soulful and a shredder, and he brings those qualities to tracks like Tom Waits's "Jockey Full of Bourbon," Ike & Tina Turner's "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter," and a handful of rock and blues-fused originals. Bonamassa has a progressive sensibility, but that never keeps him, on any of BALLAD's 12 tracks, from rocking like no one's business.
| | Rod Stewart Soulbook CD (2009)
One Word
$11.18 Continuing his stroll through pop's backpages, Rod Stewart moves on from "The Great Rock Classics of Our Time" and dives into the SOULBOOK, shorthand for all the great Motown and soul songs that still are in heavy rotation on oldies radio well into the new millennium. Rod doesn't spend much time with the soul and blues singers so influential on him, choosing instead to run through a bunch of Motown hits - a full six of the 13 songs here are from the Motor City - adding a couple of smooth soul hits from the early '70s, plus Chuck Jackson & Maxine Brown's "Let It Be Me" which gives him an opportunity to duet with Jennifer Hudson. All this is firmly within Stewart's wheelhouse.

$12.49 2009 CD EP from the former Cocteau Twins member. Guthrie has been a massive influence on everyone from My Bloody Valentine through to Antony And The Johnsons, Act The Big Pink and M83. In recent years, he's worked with School Of Seven Bells, John Foxx, Ulrich Schnauss and Harold Budd and also shared a stage with Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine). Most people know about his work in the Cocteau Twins, but he's also produced Ian McCulloch, Edwyn Collins and Felt, as well as defining the now vogue-ishly fashionable early '90s Shoegazing scene with his productions for the likes of Lush and Chapterhouse. Four tracks. Rocket Girl.
