| | E S Posthumus Unearthed CD E S Posthumus Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Said to consist of the brothers Franz and Helmut Vonlichten, although those may be pseudonyms, E.S. Posthumus (the "E.S." is said to stand for "Electronic Sound" or "Experimental Sounds," depending on which page of their press materials you read) presents an album of stirring, soundtrack-like music with Unearthed. The tracks are named after ancient cities around the globe, and the sound, reminiscent of such acts as Deep Forest and Enigma (when it isn't suggesting Enya or Yanni) is full of thundering drums, soaring strings, and the Seattle Choral Company singing in Latin. Franz and Helmut have day jobs in the entertainment industry (or so we are told), and it's no surprise that their music has attracted the attention of that industry. After being put up on the CDBaby website, the music from Unearthed has been licensed for use in movie trailers for such films as Spider-Man, Planet of the Apes, Matrix Reloaded, Minority Report, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. (Anyone who wonders why film companies don't just use films' actual scores for trailers should realize that trailers have to be put together long before films are ready for release, and scores generally are composed toward the end of post-production, when the films are almost finished.) Nor is it a surprise that "Nara" was chosen as the theme song for the TV series Cold Case. As with Moby's Play, Unearthed is full of striking themes that impress particularly in short segments, perfect for catching the ear in a commercial. Whether E.S. Posthumus will go on to a career in film-scoring, new age music, or just jingle work (or some combination) remains to be seen. But Unearthed makes for quite a calling card. ~ William Ruhlmann

| Unearthed Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Lovely E.S. Posthumus is AMAZING. I strain the word because... well... they are. My only complaint is that they don't have any more albums! This has to be one of my top ten favorite CD's, and I have an extensive collection that covers most every genre. Brilliant...Real Music. Im the type of person who listens to ALL kinds of music...From Biggie Smalls to Led Zeppelin. On behalf of my eclectic taste in music, I must say this is some of the most brilliant and spectacular music you can listen to today. Real instruments, real effort, real music. 2 years ago when HBO used to play "Nara" as the bed to their promo ads, I looked into E.S. Posthumus but was disappointed to find out that E.S. Posthumus wasn't in the main stream for the mass public to hear. However, they were notorious with movie/score producers. But nevertheless I aquired alot of their songs and was dazzled. If your trying to listen to music that you can relax to, this is for you. Defintely worth the money. Submitted by Abdullah (Wilmington, DE) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Original and beautiful, how it should be. There is something very special about this album. It has a very dense sound that makes you feel like you are in a wide open space.
I can listen to this over and over again. It is just brilliant. Submitted by dominionfreaknz (Auckland, New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Big, Life Affirming Music. Even rock dudes dig it!!! My brother worked at the mastering studio where this CD was mastered...that's how I discovered it. We then noticed that a number of the tracks were turning up in various, and numerous movie promos on television.
Now that they've finally done a wide release to the public, I have purchased many copies for friends, and family. If this were promoted correctly this would sell through the roof! Almost everyone without exception loves it, and I'm talking a wide spectrum of different types of people, with many, and varied musical tastes. It feels like magic!!!
It's got kind of a "world" feel to it but it's also other worldly, blending orchestral with rock, with huge choir, and underlying electronica, very big in the percussion department. VERY UNIQUE, and a must, must, must, have!!! One of my favorite discs of all time, and my collection is quite extensive.
I would actually give this 6 stars if I could!! Submitted by Mason,... dmason (Los Angeles, CA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Maxwell Now CD (2001)
Unearthed CD music
$8.85 "Lifetime" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Rebounding from the slight sophomore lag generated by 1998's EMBRYA, Maxwell's follow-up NOW abandons the neo-soul man's usual M.O. of using a conceptual arc of songs, and instead focuses on individual cuts. Romance remains the main ingredient found in this Brooklyn native's banquet of song, and although he stands firmly in the neo-soul camp of D'Angelo and Erykah, his use of various stylistic nuances once again stamps him as an original item. Twangy country-flavored licks and subtle DJ scratches pop up throughout the lament "Was My Girl," and scratchy rock guitar riffs are sparingly used over the heavy groove of "Temporary Nite." At the centerpiece is a studio version of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work," a staple of Maxwell's concerts previously showcased on the live 1997 EP UNPLUGGED. Delivered with a crystalline falsetto, delicate strings and subtle pedal steel, it's a daring move worthy of ...
| | Egberto Gismonti Musica De Sobrevivencia CD (1993)
Unearthed music CDs
$15.55 Egberto Gismonti's profound search for the universal departing from the particular is always an applauded approach. On this album, one can recognize references from several cultures, but that never resembles an opportunistic pastiche. The cello parts (played by Jaques Morelembaum) and some rhythmic motifs (such as the one in Bianca's theme) are reminiscent of Brazilian tradition, especially Heitor Villa Lobos' work ...
