| | DJ Cheb I Sabbah As Far As: A DJ Mix CD (2003)
La Kahena CD music
$13.09 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Dj Cheb I. Sabbah.
Adapter: Natacha Atlas.
DJ: DJ Cheb i Sabbah.
Audio Mixer: DJ Cheb i Sabbah.
Audio Remixers: DJ Cheb i Sabbah; Florian Seriot; Jan Rase.
As Far As: A DJ Mix is the first mix-tape from the semi-elusive DJ Cheb I Sabbah. The basic concept is to explore a full range of music from around the world. A basic bit of beat juggling is used for the transitions, but other than that, the music is largely untouched by Sabbah. There are a couple of remixes here, as DJ Cheb retouches bits from new age guru Paul Horn and avant-garde trumpeter (and friend of DJ Cheb I Sabbah's) Don Cherry. Other songs included come from the full circle of the non-Western world. The album starts out on an Asian flavor with Solace, Najma, and the Asian Dub Foundation providing pieces. A Paul Horn tune, and an original work from DJ Cheb, move the album toward a Middle Eastern sound and then into a North African vibe; followed up with pieces from Toires, Natacha Atlas (with an Egyptian ballad); Makale (with some Arabic rap); and ...
| | Festival In The Desert CD (2003) (Import)
La Kahena music CDs
$17.29 It's the unlikeliest place to imagine a festival, in the Sahara, not far from the Malian town of Timbuktu. But that's the home of the Festival in the Desert, which celebrated its third anniversary in 2003. While it attracts international talent, the real focus is on artists who make their homes in the area, often of the nomadic Tuareg people. But there are others who live locally, like the legendary guitarist Ali Farka Toure, whose village of Niafunke lies just 40 kilometers away, and whose "Karaw" here is a masterpiece of desert funk. But so many of the bands here mine a wonderfully dark, spare, bluesy groove, like Tindé, or Tinariwen, whose "Aldachan Manin" has ...

| | Rage Almighty Poetik? Just Us CD (2009)
La Kahena songs
$10.15 Rage Almighty a.k.a. Rage The Poet was born Adam Tench on the first day of 1984 in Boston , Massachusetts . By age 11, Rage had begun his acting career having had roles in several school plays. At age 13, in search of better opportunity and a better place for Rage and his sister to grow up, Rage's family moved to Dallas , Texas (specifically the north side, or the "Nawfside" as the locals call it). It was here that Rage honed his writing skills and, with the influence of his older sister, focused his attention on poetry. Rage quickly became know around school for his poetry, and it was around this time he picked up the name "Baby Rage." The name was actually given to him by a high school anger management counselor, due to his disdain for and angst toward his surroundings. "Almighty" was later added to his moniker just as "Baby" was dropped, spawned by his ever-growing confidence and talent as a poet. Rage eventually came across a fake ID, which allowed him to take his poetry from high school slam poetry events to various clubs and open mic nights across town. In the mean time, he continued to perform in numerous school plays and talent shows. By the time he was actually old enough to get in many venues with his own ID, Rage had established his name on the local underground poetry scene. His clever ...
