Russell Allen's "Atomic Soul" marks the first solo CD release from the lead singer of Symphony X, a man that many consider to be one of the finest vocalist in all of hard rock. In true 'solo CD' fashion 'Atomic Soul' is a complete departure from Symphony X´s bombastic progressive- power metal style. Instead, Russell Allen strips away all of the excess and offers up just the bare-bones. Russell Allen´s Atomic Soul is a gutsy, gritty, whiskey-soaked return to the blues-based soul of hard rock. On this release Russell pays homage to the sound that inspired him in his youth. Reminiscent of bands like Free, Bad Conpany, Mountain, and Deep Purple, 'Atomic Soul' showcases Allen's incredible vocal force in its purest form.

great solo album This is a really good and original album from "Sir" Russell Allen, vocalist of the huge prog-rock band Sympony-X and guest vocalist in several other progects ( mainly Arjen Anthony Lucassen's masterpieces...Star ONE, Dream Sequencer I & II...). Slight change from the Symphony-X style with less intricated guitar play and a stronger Bluesy/Old School Rock influence.
As always, perfect vocals covering a wide spectrum from soft songs to really heavy ones.
This in an absolute have for Symphony-X fans and a must listen for those looking for something good and original in these sad times of lame mall music. Submitted by younes (NAshville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Can't Be Wrong This album is absolute Killer. A Seventies groove with an 05 sound. If you like Hard 70's style rock I must have the CD. I can a feel a converstion to Symphony X coming on!!! Submitted by ilovea2 (Mt Nebo Auistralia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wow... I don't even know where to begin with this album - I can't stop listening to it! Ever since I came across Symphony X, Russell Allen has been my favorite singer. The man's incredible - this album really showcases his vocal range by the diversity of styles in each song. There ain't no filler here m-f! Brother got soul, power, and attitude! He could sing the phone book and I'd buy it. Songwriting is top notch, and I'm even more floored by the fact that he can play instruments as well - check out the lead guitar solo in "The Distance" - that's him!!! This man can do no wrong. Hopefully CDUniverse will have the album of him and Jorn Lande when it comes out... Submitted by Pound (Chico, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excelent Fusion Rock/Soul album!! This album it's awesome! it has a diversity of genres, focusing with a rock and soul feel, some songs remind me symphony x like Gaia, because of the heavy and the guitar shred stuff, there are a couple of ballads, hard rock stuff, energetic vocal work. I really recomend buying this album, it's definetly out of SX enviorment. Submitted by daveshred (México D.f.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Russell Allen's Atomic Soul album
$15.05 Clichés have a way of being overused, but some of them are so darn accurate that it's hard not to come back to them again and again. One such cliché is, "The more things change, the more they stay the same." That cliché applies to politics and economics, and it most certainly applies to music; James LaBrie's third solo project, Elements of Persuasion, ...
