(20 Customer Reviews)
Though Bryan Adams racked up some of his biggest hits with a string of mammoth, soundtrack-related power ballads, it was his earlier heartland-rock hits that first endeared him to music fans. ROOM SERVICE (2005) goes a long way towards restoring the Canadian singer's reputation as a no-frills rocker, with a selection of expertly crafted and energetically performed compositions that rank among his best work. This is generally a straight-ahead guitar/bass/drums affair from top to bottom. "Right Back Where I Started From" is a tough, Stonesy, twang-fueled stomper reminiscent of Adams's CUTS LIKE A KNIFE era. "I Was Only Dreaming" breaks the mold a little by adding a rhythmic string accompaniment and some Hendrix-like psychedelic guitar, but retains the classic Adams sound. The most intriguing songs, however, are the last two, "Nowhere Fast," and "Why Do You Have to Be So Hard to Love;" both combine a moody roots-rock feel with a wistful lyricism, leaving listeners with a palpable sense of Adams's admirable return to form.
Personnel: Bryan Adams (vocals, guitar, dobro, harmonica, piano, bass guitar); Phil Thornalley (guitar, keyboards); Yoad Nevo (guitar, percussion, programming); Keith Scott (guitar); Declan Masterson (whistle); Maurice Seezer (accordion, piano); Michael Kamen (oboe); Gary Breit (piano, organ); Norman Fisher (bass guitar); Mickey Curry (drums).

Awsome!!! New BA music that stands strong among his other classics such as Cuts Like A Knife, Reckless and Into The Fire! Definately his best since those classics! There are not many artist who after this many years can still put out a CD worthy of being a classic. Radios's changed so the Top 40 play may not be there like it was in the 80's but don't let that mislead you. Every song is great and all come together for a "really, really, awsome" listening experience!!! Submitted by Rick (ATLANTA, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Rick Springfield Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance CD (2004)
Room Service
$10.39 Long before Rick Springfield was a soapie star on American television or riding the U.S. charts with the pop/rock of "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers," the Australian-born heartthrob played rock & roll with a variety of bands in his country of origin. The most successful of those outfits, the Zoot, scored a hit in 1969 with a heavy'n'gritty version of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." At times during Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance, you can hear Springfield digging down to those rugged roots. The pop sensibilities are still intact, but from the opening bars of the first track, "Perfect," the guitars ...

When Matchbox Twenty's first album became a hit, some critics lumped the band in with flash-in-the-pan rock acts of the day. What these early naysayers missed, of course, is that in vocalist Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty had one of the finest mainstream pop/rock songwriters in ...

| | Jock Bartley Blindside CD (2007)
Room Service
$22.79 Firefall Guitarist Debut CD Features All-Star Line-upRock 'n' Roll is alive and well as rock music legends convene in the Colorado Mountains to record on a hot new CD! Jock Bartley, lead guitarist, songwriter and leader of '70s U.S. rock sensations Firefall, has just completed his debut solo CD entitled Blindside. Bartley is best known for his inspired work on such classic Firefall hits as "You Are The Woman", "Just Remember I Love You", "Strange Way", "Cinderella" and "Mexico". Recorded between January and August 2006, Blindside features guest appearances by such rock luminaries as: *Richie Furay, former Poco member and Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee with the Buffalo Springfield, *Rusty Young from Poco, *John McEuen and Jimmie Fadden of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, *Mark Andes from Spirit, Heart and Firefall, *John Magnie from The Subdudes, *Brian Nevin from Big Head Todd And The Monsters, *Michael Travis of The String Cheese Incident, *Jake Sproul of Rosehill Drive, *Bob Harris from Warren Zevon, Frank Zappa and Axe, along with many other notable musicians and singers.Songs from Blindside effortlessly span the musical spectrum - from rock to pop to blues, the album showcases Bartley's extraordinary songwriting talents. The tender, heartfelt ballad "Veronica So Fair" not only displays Jock's vocal prowess, but could quite possibly be one of the finest love songs ever written! All songs on Blindside were written by the Firefall guitarist, who also produced the album. Another highlight of this exciting new CD is the positive message song "Call On Me", which was originally written in 1998 for Suicide Prevention. The song became an anthem of sorts for the cause and the national crises hotline, 1(800) SUICIDE. A portion of the proceeds from the sales and performance of "Call On Me" will be donated back to Suicide Prevention, helping to reverse the terrible national statistics. Here's what the media is saying about Jock Bartley's new CD:"For those who've only known Jock Bartley for his hot licks and tender solos with Firefall, it'll be a delightful surprise to discover that his songwriting, singing and guitar skills are totally relevant in the 21st century. Jock's solo CD Blindside is a masterwork where the love songs have edgy twists, the topicality comes with biting humor and the music is not pigeonholed into any particular genre. Those who like an edgy, contemporary singer-songwriter-guitar virtuoso should be elated ...
