(18 Customer Reviews)
This release contains a music video for Lazarus and EPK "Making The Video".
Considering their cinematic scope, it's fitting that the songs on DEADWING were actually inspired by a film script written by Porcupine Tree mastermind Steven Wilson. Not that this should come as any surprise to longtime fans who know the UK act's reputation for churning out epic progressive rock so sonically descriptive that it's practically visual.
Porcupine Tree creates works with complex structures that do not alienate or obscure the songs themselves, pieces that are dark and psychedelic without being sinister. On the 12-minute opening title track, weighty guitar riffs and spacious synths immediately recall Nine Inch Nails, but swooping melodic changes give way to ambient passages, making it plain that this is no industrial-rock rip-off. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" begins with processed backwards guitar, building into a harmony-fueled crescendo before dropping off completely to reveal sparse picking over loops and clicks. Guests Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Adrian Belew (King Crimson) contribute vocal harmonies and guitar, respectively, and the disc comes enhanced with behind-the-scenes video footage as a bonus feature.
Recorded between March and October 2004, this album has been mixed into DTS 5.1 Surround in collaboration with Elliot Scheiner. Guest appearances on the album feature Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Adrian Belew of King Crimson. Included are three bonus studio tracks and video content not on the CD version, lyrics, photo gallery, bonus music video, and making-of material.
Porcupine Tree: Steven Wilson (vocals, guitar, hammer dulcimer, piano, keyboards, bass guitar); Richard Barbieri (keyboards, synthesizer); Colin Edwin (bass guitar); Gavin Harrison (drums, percussion).
Additional personnel: Mikael Åkerfeldt (guitar, background vocals); Adrian Belew (guitar). Porcupine Tree Deadwing Songs | 1. | Deadwing |

Well... The music is great, you'd expect nothing less from PT, and you will get nothing less. However, the DVD has nothing great to offer... nothing that great about it, and in most CD players you will not be able to play it.
I do encourage you do get Deadwing, just not the DVD :(. Submitted by freakishness102 (Portage, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fluid, never dull This is an album that has a fluid movement to it. Best listened to in full, at least the first time. I love the range of sounds. Still surprised that Porcupine Tree is not more well known. Highly recommended. Submitted by taylor (Guf Coast MS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Porcupine Tree Continues To Push The Limits This release from Porcupine Tree is downright inspiring. The creative focus and compositional punch raises the benchmark in this brave new world of prog-rock.I am 53 years of age and avidly scour the world for what I consider to be the best prog-rock! This album re-kindles the fire. Submitted by hardbeat (Brockport, NY,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Reference quality This is THE reference standard. The production qualities are superb.
The cutting-edge of progressive rock, Porcupine Tree are at the top of the heap and they are pulling away each time they release another album. Thank God for them...it was getting pretty sparse and depressing out there on the "rock frontier" with the commercial crap and the mediocre 'reinventions' of eighties and seventies bands.
These folk are the epitome of what a class act ought to be and its obvious they have respect for their fans since they consistently put out finely crafted and beautifully produced music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep it up and all the very best to them. Submitted by manka1994 (selma, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CDs (2009) Deluxe Edition
Deadwing CD music
$16.24 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel synths of "Bad Romance" and the updated ABBA revision "Alejandro," as it is on the rock & roll ballad "Speechless" -- its big guitars lifted from Noel Gallagher -- and the wonderful, perverse march "Teeth." Even the stuttering splices on "Telephone," a duet with Beyoncé, leans to the other side of the Atlantic, which just emphasizes the otherness that's become Gaga's calling card. And even as she's becoming omnipresent, with her songs mingling with those ...

Deadwing songs
$8.75 At this stage of her career Mariah Carey does not need to prove herself, but her voice is so powerful that with each new recording she, once again, reminds you: "Listen to what I can do." Vocal gymnastics and Christmas songs are not often thought of as a compatible combination, but on MERRY CHRISTMAS Mariah jumps, climbs, ...
