(1 Customer Review)
In retrospect, Accept's combination of taught, crunching guitar riffs and the uniquely screeching vocals of singer Udo Dirkschneider has become one of the most instantly recognizable sonic identities in all of hard rock and metal. And after finding the sound they'd been searching for with the title track of their previous album I'm a Rebel, the German quintet made sure to quickly patent it as their own on 1982's Breaker. Though it remains a must-have for die-hard fans only, this was where the band truly hit their stride, not to mention launched their career. After crashing into action with the high-energy bursts of "Starlight" and the title track, the band segues into the more controlled and refined "Run if You Can." Though its main riff quotes Judas Priest rather blatantly (one of Accept's few bad habits in their early years), the song would serve as a blueprint for future triumphs by taming their fierce aggression with a little more melody and a great chorus. Also on hand is the irrepressible classic "Son of a Bitch" (partly sung in German), a competent ballad in "Can't Stand the Night," and a couple of career oddities in the shape of "Midnight Highway" (featuring chorused vocals and Boston-esque harmony guitars) and the totally uncharacteristic "Breaking Up Again," an acoustic ballad sung by bassist Peter Baltes. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Udo Dirkschneider: "I would say that this album is the result of pure anger (note: I destroyed 3 microphones during the production). Following our experiences with "I'm A Rebel" we made it our goal not to be influenced musically by anyone outside of the band this time. One example are the lyrics of "Son of a Bitch" that are absolutely anti record company. With this album you can say that the Accept sound was born, and brought us attention across Europe and a tour with Judas Priest. Furthermore, this album was a starting point for many musicians to begin playing their own music."
Accept: Peter Baltes (vocals, bass); Stefan Kauffmann (vocals, drums); Udo

Breaker album
$17.59 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Breaker CD music
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," ...

Breaker songs
$5.75 In the tradition of bands such as Metallica and Judas Priest, Pantera put themselves on the map with supercharged blues-based metal riffs and screaming/singing vocals. Adding groove to their artistic aggression made COWBOYS FROM HELL a landmark for the band.
With the relentless "Primal Concrete Sledge," Pantera take a chance and incorporate industrial elements into their style, a risky move for a metal band in 1990. "Psycho Holiday" ...
