 Still a great player!
Jake has been around for a long time. Every time I hear something new from him I get chills. Hhis approach is always original even if he is doing cover tunes for this album. His playing is unmistakeable. Get it and enjoy until his next album!

 A complete letdown
I was excited to see Jake back in action, so I picked this up the day it was released. All I can say is "what a major letdown." There's just nothing to get excited about on here.
If you want to hear Jake do his thing, pick up A Fine Pink Mist. That record is truly amazing. It's innovative, fun, and a guitar-fest. This covers album may actually be the first CD I've ever sold back to a store.

Like an old comfortable pair of jeans!!!!
Been a fan of Jake's for many years, & buying this CD & playing it is like slipping into that old pair of jeans - you know the ones - they fit you in all the right places & are the most comfy things you own. Bluesy rock that hits you in the ear-drum & leave you begging for more! My CD player in the truck won't let me take it out.

There have been countless cover albums over the years, where established rock artists redo favorites from their formative years (David Bowie's PIN UPS, Rush's FEEDBACK, etc.), and the 2005 Michael Schenker release HEAVY HITTERS treads upon similar terrain. Put together by renowned studio musician Bob Kulick (best known to Kiss fans as the brother of Bruce Kulick, and as a guest guitarist on numerous Kiss albums), HEAVY HITTERS puts Schenker together with quite a few notable names from both the heavy metal and classic rock genres. Featured are covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens on vocals), Pink Floyd's "Money" (with Tommy Shaw), Mountain's "Blood of the Sun" (with Leslie West), and Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" (with Paul Di'Anno). Also featured are a pair of tracks that are "Schenker related"--a cover of UFO's classic "Doctor Doctor," while former MSG singer Gary Barden reunites with Schenker on a cover of Gary Moore and Phil Lynott's "Out in the Fields." While longtime fans would undoubtedly rather have had a new studio album by the Michael Schenker Group, HEAVY HITTERS is your typical fun cover set, which at times serves as a glimpse into Schenker's musical roots.

Following up 2000's cast-of-thousands album IOMMI, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi resurrected his solo project for 2005's FUSED. Session-drummer extraordinaire Kenny Aronoff and bassist/keyboardist Bob Marlette are once again on board, with former Deep Purple member Glenn Hughes joining in on vocals and bass. Somewhat unhappy with their roles as second bananas in their respective groups, Kim Deal (bassist of the Pixies) and Tanya Donelly (guitarist of the Throwing Muses) struck out on their own. The result, after hiring Josephine Wiggs (bassist from the seriously underrated Perfect Disaster) and ex-Slint drummer Britt Walford (who took the name Shannon Doughton for his Breeders-related recordings), was the album POD, which was released in 1990 to great success. A very short record (12 songs in just under 30 minutes), it is a jagged, barbed affair that clearly shows its creators pedigrees.
