Jazz-influenced and classically schooled, Feist possesses a voice with a distinctive intimacy often lacking in trained singers. This warmth complements the well-orchestrated compositions on LET IT DIE with an almost voyeuristic atmosphere, akin to hearing someone singing herself to sleep. On the bluesy spiritual "Lonely Lonely," rhythmic handclaps and sparsely picked guitar accompany Feist's haunting lilt, invoking the ghosts of Appalachia, while the Bee Gees' "Love You Inside Out" (here titled "Inside and Out") is set to an up-tempo disco beat. Feist's vocal agility enables her to sing straight French cabaret on "Tout Doucement" and smooth, soulful jazz on "Gatekeeper." The song that will make the tears fall, though, is the 1930s-esque, cinematic piano ballad "Now at Last," in which Feist dreamily sings "What makes winters lonely?/Now at last I know."
A longtime presence in the Canadian music scene, Leslie Feist contributed her breathy, expressive alto voice to releases by a diverse range of artists, including Peaches, Broken Social Scene, and the Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience. However, on Feist's solo debut, this talented singer/songwriter comes into her own with stories of love and light, and a melancholy kind of beauty not immediately apparent by the album's cryptic title, LET IT DIE.

Entertainment Weekly (No. 819, p.88) - "Sly folkie, slow-jazz seductress, sparkling pop pixie--[Feist's] kaleidoscopic talents shift almost as constantly as her attention..." - Grade: A- Magnet (p.92) - "LET IT DIE brims with sweet melodies, gentle bossa-nova/folk tendencies and polite electronics." CMJ (No. 910, p.4) - "[Feist] makes lovely music stripped of trends and obvious cues, channeling dashes of Billie Holiday and all that old-school jazz..." Great new artist! A must to listen to. This cd is wonderful! Full of rich vocals and beautiful lyrics. I had heard only one song "Lonely, Lonely" and knew I had to hear more. This is not only a great cd , but a fun artist to see live, too. Submitted by elenarodriguez (San Rafael, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Inspired, Keeps you warm on a cold night! Music that could be the soundtrack to your best dreams! Fiest's vocals compliment the music beautifully, the lyrics are smart and addictive. Some of the most indepth, inviting music I've heard since Ms. Fitzgerald... keeps you company when you're all alone! Submitted by evarett (Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wonderful Vocals Feist has a truly beautiful and soothing voice...it's almost as if she trying to get me to fall asleep! There is a great variety of styles on this album, from jazz to funk, but Feist is able to pull it all off. It's a great buy, you won't regret it, especially if you're looking for something interesting to listen to for a change. Submitted by Anita (Burke, VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Album This is basically Feists comeback after she blew her vocals out. This album carries a lot of styles, a bit of jazz, folk and pop; pleasing to anyones ears. The only strange thing that I've noticed is that the American release has a different french song (Tout Doucement) than the Canadian release (L'amour Ne Dure Pas Toujours). I prefer the french song on the Canadian release more. Submitted by Toma (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Let It Die CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Let It Die album
$12.05 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime of listening to the Cure, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, and many others--even a dose of soul gets worked into these grand anthems. Chassagne delivers some spellbinding vocals on "Haiti," while the tinkling piano and strings on "Crown of Love" conjure up a heartbroken surfside prom. In 2004, this made many critics' year-end lists, and it's no wonder--the songs on FUNERAL are so packed with unique instrumentation, mesmerizing build-ups, and galvanizing tempo changes that they seem culled from some enigmatic, ...

| | Shins Wincing The Night Away CD (2007)
Let It Die songs
$12.95 With their music referred to as "life-changing" in the popular 2004 film GARDEN STATE, the Shins, already a revered indie-rock band, recorded their third Sub Pop studio album under the weight of high expectations. Finally, in early '07, the group emerged with the strikingly ambitious and accomplished WINCING THE NIGHT AWAY.
On the opening "Sleeping Lessons," woozy keyboard lines and the wavering vocals of frontman James Mercer immediately announce WINCING as a departure, but slowly the drifting atmospherics give way to a guitar-driven rave-up. Much of the record echoes this more expansive sound, with the shimmering "Phantom Limb" hitting a cavernous crescendo, and the dreamy, synth-laden "Red Rabbits" bordering on ambient territory. Of course, ...
| | Feist Reminder CD (2007)
Let It Die album
$11.35 Canadian singer-songwriter Leslie Feist first gained prominence working with the Montreal shock-rapper Peaches and later the Toronto-based collective Broken Social Scene, but with the release of 2004's masterful LET IT DIE, she embarked on a solo career that quickly eclipsed her previous work. Following the pleasant but inessential remix album OPEN SEASON, 2007's THE REMINDER is Feist's true follow-up to LET IT DIE, and it deepens and solidifies that album's strengths. Combining jazzy torch songs with acoustic, folkish ballads, THE REMINDER is ...
| | National Boxer CD (2007)
Let It Die CD music
$9.95 On 2007's BOXER, the National's second full-length album for the venerable Beggars Banquet label, the Brooklyn-based indie-rock act follows up the lauded ALLIGATOR with another round of melancholy guitar-driven tunes. Led by deep-voiced vocalist Matt Berninger, who often sounds hung-over yet disarmingly articulate, the band excels at brooding mid-tempo songs, as exemplified by the world-weary "Fake Empire," which combines political and personal themes, and "Mistaken for Strangers," a track that recalls NYC peers Interpol, thanks in part to the punchy approach of shared producer Peter Katis.
And while his presence isn't immediately apparent, indie hero Sufjan Stevens contributes piano to two tracks ("Racing Like a Pro" and ...

Let It Die album
$9.69 Returning to his solo career after Deacon Blue's short-lived late-'90s reunion, Ricky Ross shows on 2003's This Is the Life that the differences between Deacon Blue and his solo material are minimal at best. After the hushed acoustic opener, "Northern Soul" (which musically bears no resemblance to the Wigan scene at all), the album quickly moves into more familiar territory for Ross, with songs like the Prefab Sprout-style lush, jangly pop of "London Comes Alive" ...

Let It Die album
$9.09 I have been playing guitar and writing music since I was a teenager, but I didn’t really find my niche until I became a father. It seemed like every day there was something interesting, or amazing, or hilarious to write about as our children grew. Then as I started to take my music to school and with every visit there was something that happened that made me laugh or made me wonder. In all the years I have been performing my music I have been intrigued by the questions children ask and the things that they find amazing. That sense of wonder is a wonderful thing and it is surely what opens doors and sets our paths as we rumble through our lives. I have tried to capture that sense of wonder in this my second CD, Do you wonder, too?My real job, (my paying job), is in medicine. I am a plastic surgeon by day, and sometimes by night in the emergency room or operating room. It is a specialty in medicine that allows the blending of art and science every day and I really like that. It can be stressing, and that is where music comes in for me. It is a great stress buster and it lets me exercise areas in my brain that plastic surgeons don’t use on the job, unless I’m singing in the OR.Do you wonder, too? and my first CD Isn’t it Incredible? contain 25 songs that are about a lot of the things you and your children have done, or learned together or wondered ...
