With the exception of the lead singer, Transplants is composed of ex-members of Rancid and Blink 182. The band's sophomore release HAUNTED CITIES straddles the line between punk, rock-rap, and alternative pop. The latter is best epitomized by "Gangsters and Thugs," a tune that sounds like it could have appeared among outtakes from Beck's ODELAY.
However, this album points mostly in the direction of a punk revival, only with crunchier guitars, heavier vocal rants, and chunkier drum beats. For example, "American Guns" mixes Shane MacGowan-style vocals with messy guitars and a driving bass pattern. But just when you think you've pigeon-holed the group, Transplants switches gears again. On "Hit The Fence" the band combines Beastie Boys-influenced rap with a menacing piano motif. The last track on the album, "Crash and Burn," even uses Afro-Cuban piano riffs. Featuring guest vocal performances by hip-hop stars Sen Dog and B. Real (from Cypress Hill), this release is sure to remain a favorite with those who love to hear genres combined freely and without apology.

CMJ (No. 920, p.5) - "Punk and hip-hop have a lot in common, and few bands have bridged this gap so effortlessly." Transplants Haunted Cities Songs Haunted Cities Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) great album i loved their 1st album, but Haunted Cities KILLS the first one. those who dont like the hip hop aspect of it should listener to it with a more open mind. Rob Aston is a wicked rapper and he shows that on this album more than on the first. i put this album in my top 5 with albums like pink floyds dark side of the moon, mars voltas deloused, blink 182 untitled and the chili peppers californication. solid album i think. Haunted Cities album
$7.59 HEAVEN AND HELL is Social Distortion's finest hour, the crystallization of all the elements that made it a great band. The country and rockabilly influences cultivated on previous albums are fully integrated here, so that Jimmy Work's country classic "Making Believe" sounds perfectly at home amid Mike Ness's own compositions. It's often hard to tell whether the band is punking up covers of old country and rockabilly tunes ...

| | Transplants CD (2002)
Haunted Cities songs
$10.05 The self-titled Transplants album represents Rancid vocalist Tim Armstrong's variant on that great rock & roll staple, the side project. As is often the case with such endeavors by members of famous bands, TRANSPLANTS was recorded bit by bit over the course of a couple of years (presumably during Armstrong's downtime from Rancid). Still, it all hangs together with its raw, organic vibe. Though loops and synthesizer are present nearly every cut, the album maintains an agreeably rough-and-ready rock & roll feel. Fans of Rancid should feel at home with the punk quotient here, but healthy doses of hip-hop, funk, and reggae are injected into the mix as well, and Armstrong ...
| | System Of A Down Mezmerize CD (2005)
Haunted Cities album
$9.59 Many rock bands talk endlessly about their "sound," refining a basic formula until it's either perfect or perfectly boring. System of a Down, however, developed a loyal fanbase with the opposite approach--the group mixes genres so freely that describing what their music sounds like is nearly impossible. Sure, SOAD is, at its core, a metal band, but on MEZMERIZE's first two songs alone, vocalist/guitarist/mastermind Daron Malakian and crew ...
| | Dropkick Murphys Warrior's Code CD (2005) Digipak
Haunted Cities CD music
$11.39 Like The Pogues before them, the Dropkick Murphys successfully combine traditional Irish music, (lusty, barroom choruses plus accordion and bagpipes) and punk rock (choppy guitar riffs, speedy drumming) into the kind of Celt-punk that's at the heart of their fifth ...

| | Fugazi Steady Diet Of Nothing CD (1991)
Haunted Cities songs
$9.55 Fugazi's third album, STEADY DIET OF NOTHING, finds the Washington D.C. quartet in a restless mood. Although the group sticks to its typically incisive political and social commentary with its lyrics, the band's sound here is clearly in transition, with the bouncy grooves of earlier albums being replaced at times by complex rhythms and droning guitars. The latter is prevalent on the opening "Exit Only," which highlights buzzing feedback and Guy Picciotto's raspy vocals, and "Reclamation," which takes anthemic guitar riffs and Ian MacKaye's unmistakable voice ...
| | Primal Scream XTRMNTR CD (2000)
Haunted Cities album
$10.49 Primal Scream's XTRMNTR is a wild burst of raging, full-on, glorious noise, as funky beats meet distorted rock guitars head-on, united by the inimitable, agitated vocals of front man Bobby Gillespie. This album is all the Primals' previous incarnations ...
