Seeing that I really wanted to gave it a one and a half, I rounded the rating to the next highest number, and not down to the lower number (of stars). With that being said, I think this album pretty much sucks! There are not many albums out there that are so bad that it takes me two sessions to get through the whole thing, which was the case here. I have been a Europe fan since their S/T album, and can easily say that this sounds nothing like Europe. The bad thing is, is that this album doesn't sound like any of Europe's previous releases. The album doesn't even sound modern, someone should have told the boys from Sweden that grunge is no longer popular in the states (or anywhere else in the world). The music is very "grungey", and Joey Tempest sounds like he doing everything possible to try and sound like Layne Stanley or Eddie Vedder. The sound of the album is thin, and I don't hear the melodies that some of the reviewers have written about. If I had to compare this album to something, I would say that it sounds like Queensryche's 'Hear In The Now Frontier,' or Dokken's 'Shadow Life.' And we all now that these were the absolute low points for both bands. I am even wondering if 'Start From The Dark' is worst than the new Stryper album 'Reborn.' In one word, this album is "boring," and should be avoided at all costs. On a high note, the songs 'Start From The Dark' and 'My America' are quite good, but not enough to justify the price of this CD. Sadly Europe should have remained disbanded, as they didn't do anything but tarnish their name. I hope the payout was good boys, cause you just lost a fan. Good Comeback Great to see Europe come back with a harder style cd.Some fans won't like this cd because of not being commercial enuff like previous cds but as I see the Band have come full circle to the sound of the first few records with John Norum.Good to have them back. for those who say sort of none sense things Europe is a swedish band and the swedish bands never went bad. This album is one of the best. Is also a sign of the real mature trace that they made along this 10 years. The best, that´s for sure... Submitted by Ricardo Sousa (Europe, Portugal, Covilhã) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime II CD (2006)
Start From The Dark
$15.65 Jet City pomp-metallers Queensryche left their denim-jacketed fanbase hanging for close to two decades following the release of 1988's OPERATION: MINDCRIME, a sociopolitical concept album, and the subsequent chart success of its 1990 follow-up, EMPIRE. Frontman Geoff Tate (credited here as "Leader") returns to finish the tale as if the 1990s never happened, offering up a brace of unadulterated '80s metal that, miraculously, sounds in step with where the band left off and at the same time, given early-2000s nostalgia trends, seems ahead of the ...

| | Hood Outside Closer CD (2005)
Start From The Dark
$11.65 Atop the modernist disco beat and lush strings of "The Negatives," Hood urges listeners to escape to the furthest place from their house until their spirit completely breaks, and then to "watch the birds fly round, just like the first time." It could well serve as the band's prerequisite for creating intense and innovative glitch-pop masterpieces.
Listening to a new Hood album tends to be like hearing the band for the first time. Like its British countryside hometown of Leeds, Hood's aesthetic is bleak, autumnal, and rustic. The group's 2005 full-length release, OUTSIDE CLOSER, blends Hood's pastoral outsider ethos with dub and hip-hop rhythms, electronics, and orchestral beds, as hinted on the band's previous album, COLD HOUSE. The gentle, pristine guitars of "End of One Train Working" and the danceable melancholia of "The Lost You" ...
