2005 Japanese standard jewel case pressing of Prince's 1988 album. Features the same tracks and mastering as the US edition but includes an OBI and Japanese/English insert. Warner. 2005.
With powerhouse drummer Sheila E. and synthesizer wizard Dr. Fink still remaining from Prince's classic mid-to-late-'80s band, LOVESEXY is an all-out funk assault, aimed squarely at the dancefloor. The elaborate, genre-crossing arrangements of PURPLE RAIN give way to an irresistibly propulsive dance-funk-rock aesthetic. Basic, primal rhythms, gritty sax and chattering, funky rhythm guitar help drive the long, foot-moving tunes. As usual, the lyrics tend toward the carnal, and as dance-oriented an album as LOVESEXY, that lascivious sensibility just helps to push the whole thing along. The romantic ballad "When 2 R In Love" provides an effective change of pace, but don't expect to sit down for long once LOVESEXY gets underway.
Personnel: Prince (vocals, various instruments); Cat (vocals); Miko (guitars, background vocals); Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss (brass, background vocals); Boni Boyer (keyboards, background vocals); Dr. Fink (keyboards); Levi Seacer, Jr. (bass, background vocals); Sheila E. | | Kemistry CD (2003)
Lovesexy music CDs
$11.49 Like a male Sade, or vintage Steely Dan without the irony, smooth R&B vocalist Kem weaves mellow, late-night musical tapestries over '70s-style jazz grooves. In the process, he manages to sound completely contemporary without so much as a single hip-hop beat or squiggly synth line. Kem's voice is an instrument of subtle grace and power, his vocal timbre and clipped phrasing owing an immediately obvious debt to Sam Cooke, but, interestingly, also occasionally recalling Dave Matthews. Best of all, however, is the Motown vocalist's sense of restraint. The maturity of his delivery belies his youth and puts many established vocalists to shame. Combining the best elements of Luther Vandross, Lou Rawls, and Seal, Kem delivers a slab of jazz-inflected rhythm & ...
| | Jaheim Still Ghetto CD (2002) Enhanced CD
Lovesexy songs
$9.49 Though R&B pinup boy Jaheim's artistic focus is on life in the ghetto, he doesn't fall in line with the confrontational hip-hoppers who revel in the difficulties, violence, and harshness of urban life. Instead, as the album's title suggests, he focuses on the romance that blossoms even on the mean streets.
GHETTO LOVE roams smoothly from the sultry slow jam of "Looking for Love" to the '70s-style funk backing and forceful beat of "Let it Go" and the hip-hop-oriented "Li'l Nigga Ain't Mine," which revisits the theme examined in Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Jaheim is assisted on his debut album by some talented friends, including Castro, Miss Jones, and Terry Dexter, but it's his own way with a melody and knack for balancing street-cred hip-hop with heartfelt soul that are the most memorable elements on this disc.
As the title indicates, STILL GHETTO pretty much picks up where Jaheim left off with his previous album GHETTO LOVE. Once again we find the singer deftly mixing street-real themes and hip-hop production techniques with slow-jam R&B tracks and soulful vocalizing. Despite his hard-guy front, Jaheim mostly comes off as a Love Man, as on "Put That Woman First" and his leather-and-lace deut with Mary J. Blige "The Beauty and the Thug." Even though STILL GHETTO finds him enough of a softie ...
| | Donny Hathaway Collection CD (1990)
Lovesexy album
$8.45 Unfortunately, Atlantic's A Donny Hathaway Collection, one of the few career retrospectives available (and basically the only one in print), isn't quite definitive; it presents a version of Hathaway's career inordinately focused on his commercially successful duets with Roberta Flack, and his slowest, most dirge-like solo recordings. A few of his best up-tempo tracks are represented ("The Ghetto," his live cover of "What's Going On"), but not before haunted material ...

Lovesexy songs
$8.89 Although the Swedish-born Nenah Cherry-daughter of jazz trumpeter Don, older sister of singer/songwriter Eagle Eye-had spent the early '80s as the singer in the UK avant-jazz-funk outfit Rip Rig and Panic and its offshoot Float Up CP, almost nobody had heard of her in the US before this 1988 solo debut. This made the album's impact all the more impressive, as the powerful mix of hip-hop, jazz and pop seemed to come out of nowhere. The inescapable hit "Buffalo Stance," built on ...

| | Mick Ralphs It's All Good CD (2002)
Lovesexy CD music
$18.79 This agreeable instrumental outing from Bad Company's longtime guitar ace will likely find its greatest favor with guitar and home recording buffs of all stripes. He plays everything here, except for a bluesy, stampeding version of "Hideaway" taped on Bad Company's 1999 reunion tour. Ralphs ignites his renowned blues-rock muse on "S.E.X." and "Train Wreck," while "Don't Need Money" is a funkier ...
| | Herbie Hancock Quartet CD (1982) Japan; Remastered
Lovesexy music CDs
$26.95 Incomparable piano/keyboard master Herbie Hancock does his thing on the nine track release QUARTET including "'Round Midnight" and "Parade."
This is an extremely symbolic album, for Herbie Hancock and the V.S.O.P. rhythm section essentially pass the torch of the '80s acoustic jazz revival to the younger generation, as personified by then 19-year-old Wynton Marsalis. Recorded during a break on a tour of Japan, a month before Marsalis made his first Columbia album, the technically fearless teenaged trumpeter mostly plays the eager student, imitating Miles, Freddie Hubbard, and Brownie McGhee, obviously relishing the challenge of keeping up with his world-class cohorts. Things start out conventionally enough with a couple of Monk standards, and then they progress into the mid-'60s Miles Davis post-bop zone, with Ron Carter and Tony Williams driving Marsalis and Hancock relentlessly forward. Several ...
| | Wendell B Good Times CD (2005)
Lovesexy songs
$14.29 WENDELL B."Good Times"St. Louis, City of smoky barbeque, gritty sounds of jazz music, and the singing stomping grounds of songster Wendell B, the President of Cuzzo Music in association with Hornsby-Lee Music Group and the first artist to release product from the fledgling music corporation with the release of "Good Times".Comparison to his idols Freddie Jackson, Luther Vandross, Barry White and Will Downing don't bother this laid back entertainer whose love affair with music began at the age of five when he made his foray into the industry by joining the gospel group the Sensational Wonders. He spent a good ten years singing for the Lord before his vocal tastes were whetted by the sounds of rhythm and blues. At first I had to hide my interest from Mamma. She was into the church: she didn't play that, he laughs. As Wendell B. reached maturity, both in years and vocal ability, he began performing with vocal groups such as Dream, which he formed in high school, touring his hometown and surrounding areas. It was then that he really learned the importance of stage presence through the tutelage of local legends Marvin Rice, lead vocalist for Masters Touch and Visions lead vocalist Carl Homes, who schooled him in perfecting runs and other vocal techniques. The decision to go solo after having spent two decades in groups was coupled by the desire to follow into the entrepreneurial ...
