(20 Customer Reviews)
In the six years that passed after the release of 1999's A DAY IN THE LIFE, Eric Benet's very public marriage and painful breakup with Halle Berry ended up overshadowing the Milwaukee native's skills as a talented, soulful singer-songwriter. ... Full DescriptionNot surprisingly, HURRICANE uses Benet's recent turmoil to fuel songs touching on the crooner's dark and troubled times. But rather than go down the more accusatory path of musical retribution (as the late Marvin Gaye did on 1978's HERE MY DEAR), Benet looks inward throughout these 14 cuts.
The tone is immediately set with the stripped-down, gospel-flavored opener "Be Myself Again," with its message of inner renewal, and producer Hod David's acoustic-guitar accompaniment adding a very Bill Withers-esque vibe to the proceedings. From here, Benet seeks redemption (the lush "My Prayer"), reveals his vulnerable side (a serene "Man Enough to Cry"), and yearns for love (slow jam "I Wanna Be Loved"). Most impressive is the ethereal "India," a song for the singer's daughter that tells of her inspiration amid dreamy pedal steel, deftly plucked acoustic guitar, and a muted Chris Botti trumpet solo.
Personnel include: Eric Benet (vocals, bass instrument, percussion); Hod David, Randall Bowland, Jeff Lee Johnson (guitar); Chris Botti (trumpet); Demonte Posey (organ, keyboards); David Foster , James Poyser (keyboards); Pino Palladino (bass instrument); Brian Frasier Moore, Vinnie Colaiuta (drums).

Mojo (Publisher) (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[T]his is a very palatable collection of self-penned confessional songs..." Eric Benet Hurricane Songs Hurricane Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Hurricane Album of the Year I had never heard Eric Benet's music befor this album. His music is true to the heart, capitvating, sensual just a really, really fantastic album. He has a couple of tunes that reminds me of Jonathan Butler & Howard Hewett, both of whom I wish could do some music with Mr. Benet. This album should be the album of the year... If they had 10 stars I'd give this one a 12. I'm going out to buy his previous CD's. Submitted by Anreyea (Washington, DC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

I LOVE IT!!! I loved this album. I really enjoyed listening to every song on it. Usually it's just one or two song on a CD I like, but this whole album was a hit. Every song made me want to hear more. I can't wait to hear the next album. Again this was a really good album. Submitted by saudia07 (Cleveland, Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Hurricane album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."

| | Brian Mcknight Gemini CD (2005)
Hurricane CD music
$11.59 On that latter track, the silken-voiced balladeer intones "it's hard to breathe without you, girl, and baby, that's a fact" with an earthen, vulnerable sincerity that typifies every McKnight composition. It's that mature connection to his songs that places McKnight in the category of the finest contemporary R&B crooners. He drives that point home on "Grown Man Business," as he touts the virtues of the reliable, refined man over the sweetest of ...
| | John Legend Get Lifted CD (2004)
Hurricane music CDs
$9.29 Six years after cutting his musical teeth as a teen, tickling the ivories on the classic Lauryn Hill single "Everything Is Everything," John Stephens popped up everywhere in 2004, going by the bold name of John Legend. His ubiquity was unsurprising, since he was taken under the wing of Kanye West, the year's breakout success, who tabbed Legend "the future of hip-hop." It's an interesting label for a man whose elegant voice and schooled songwriting conjures up Bill Withers and Al Green, but sometimes the future intersects with the past in a manner transcending revival.
Legend drops his debut, GET LIFTED, into the center of the ...
| | Anthony Hamilton Soulife CD (2005)
Hurricane songs
$13.65 Despite a remarkably soulful voice somewhere between Teddy Pendergrass and Bill Withers, and a knack for penning breathtakingly original songs about love and life's misdirections, North Carolinian Anthony Hamilton spent almost a decade toiling in music's backlots. His critically hailed MCA debut, XTC, foretold the neo-soul movement, but came years before the genre's explosion in 1996. Seven years later, Hamilton finished his dues-paying and sold millions of records for Arista with the excellent COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM.
In between, Hamilton landed at the independent Soulife Records. As evidenced ...
| | Babyface Grown & Sexy CD (2005)
Hurricane album
$14.35 Seventeen years prior to 2005's GROWN & SEXY, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds's voice first appeared on the Deele's exquisitely sweet Top Ten pop and R&B hit "Two Occasions." Even then Babyface was by any measure fully grown, immeasurably sexy, and slowly taking control of the R&B world as half of songwriting and producing team LaFace (with future Arista head L.A. Reid). That GROWN & SEXY, the singer-songwriter's fifth album and first following a four-year absence, breaks little new ground and has ...
