Opium Garden album
$30.39 HISTORY BOOK 1 contains one disc of Jackson's greatest hits and one disc of all-new songs. It features a 52-page booklet with liner notes by Janet Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as many never-before-seen photographs.
HISTORY BOOK 1 was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year. "You Are Not Alone" was nominated for Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and the Michael Jackson-Janet Jackson duet "Scream" was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
Michael Jackson's monumental collection HISTORY BOOK 1 seeks to make two points. The first disc--chock full of hits spanning Jackson's Epic Records solo career--tries to establish how the so-called King of Pop earned that nickname in the first place; the second disc, featuring fifteen new, star-studded tracks, makes a case for him holding onto that royal moniker well into the next century. And though many may dismiss both directives as the product of Jackson camp hype, once the music begins it's hard to deny him any title he wishes to bestow upon himself.
All of the songs on HISTORY's first disc have already been ingrained in the minds of the radio-listening, MTV-watching public. From the funky disco of 1979's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," through the countless and diverse THRILLER hits ("Billie Jean," "The Girl Is Mine," etc.), to the anthemic peace-in-our-time ballad "Heal The World," Jackson's star-power-fueled singles invested the mainstream with black ...

Opium Garden CD music
$11.19 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym for "Energy Never Dies"), their third studio effort. Combining Will.I.Am's thumping ...

| | Monica Miss Thang CD (1995)
Opium Garden album
$7.59 Samples include "Back Seat Of My Jeep" (as performed by LL Cool J), "Spoonin' Rap" (as performed by Sugar Hill Gang), and "Cutie Pie" (as performed by One Way).
In the ever-expanding school of teenage artists, Monica proves to be far ahead of her classmates. Toni Braxton-like vocals impress her adult audience, while the ghetto-driven music keeps her connected to her peers. Debuting with MISS THANG, Monica seizes the ground that other R&-wanna-B singers have barely trod.
MISS THANG breathed life back into the career-breaking smash single, "Don't Take It Personal." The album includes both that song and its remix, which combines the hit with Monica's interpretation of Jermaine Jackson's song of the same name. And while some seem to overdose on remakes, Monica keeps the covers to just one, the S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care." Although MISS THANG is colored with timeless ballads such as the Stacy Lattisaw-esque "Before You Walk Out Of My Life," songs like "Angel" show that Monica is also capable of a '90's sound. Her producers, including such prominent hit-makers as Dallas Austin, SoulShock, Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson, combine smooth grooves with brief elements of hip-hop. "Let's Straighten It Out," a duet with Usher that was originally recorded for the PANTHER soundtrack, is musically reminiscent of old-school R&B and sports a chorus from an old Pete Rock & C.L. ...

| | Bob Marley Trenchtown Rock: Anthology '69-'78 CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Opium Garden songs
$27.59 Recorded between 1969 & 1978. Includes liner notes by Laurence Cane-Honeysett.
This excellent 2002 Bob Marley collection presents many of the legendary reggae artist's finest songs from 1969-'78, including "Soul Shakedown Party," "Duppy Conqueror," "Soul Rebel," "Kaya," and many more.
Somewhere between LEGEND--the definitive single disc Bob Marley collection--and the four-disc career spanning box SONGS OF FREEDOM lies this impressive collection. TRENCHTOWN ROCK: ANTHOLOGY '69-'78 will fill in the gaps for those only familiar with the former while more completist Marley fans may have these recordings in other places. Essentially covering the early Wailers period before the 1974 departure of Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, the two-disc set concentrates on Marley as a single member of an impeccable band in its prime--rather than as a solo artist. Throughout 52 tracks (many of them produced by a young Lee "Scratch" Perry), Marley's voice blends in elevating harmony with Wailer's and Tosh's over spry ska, rock steady, and classic roots reggae rhythms. Many fine moments here--like groovy "Stop the Train" and the classic protest song "Presser Man"--highlight Peter ...
