Patrick Gubler a.k.a. P.G. Six has always made music that defies easy categorization. Light years ahead of his contemporaries--he was playing accomplished acoustic sets well before the early-2000s freak folk explosion--Gubler has always let deft songwriting, multi-instrumental chops, and impeccable taste rule. 2007's SLIGHTLY SORRY, his fourth album and first for Drag City, revisits many of the touchstones that have defined his remarkable career. He reins in his more expansive tendencies without losing his Richard Thompson-esque guitar flourish. A truly beautiful and stimulating album, William Parker's PAINTER'S SPRING is that rare jazz session that melds supreme creativity, technique, intuition, sensuousness, and surprise in perfect balance.
