| | Israel Iz Kamakawiwo'Ole Alone In Iz World CD (2001)
$13.59 While the name Israel Kamakawiwo'ole falls trippingly off few tongues, the Hawaiian singer better known as "Iz" was one of the biggest stars in his home state. Iz first came to public attention as a member of the popular Hawaiian group known as the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. His subsequent solo career brought even greater fame, and countless fans were saddened at his untimely death in 1997. Those who mourn his passing will be gladdened by the posthumous release of ALONE IN IZ WORLD, compiled from various recording session outtakes.
While one might expect a big, deep sound to emanate from a gargantuan-sized body like that of Iz, the hefty singer actually possessed a gorgeous, fragile tenor voice full of tenderness and delicacy. That voice is put to use here on tunes that alternate between voice-and-ukelele solo performances (Iz was no slouch on the uke) and more fully arranged tunes enhanced after the singer's death. Whether crooning in his native tongue or in English, Iz cuts right through to the heart of the listener with his pure, emotive tone.
Contains an untitled hidden track after "In This Life."
Recorded in Hawaii. Includes liner notes by Jon De Mello.
Personnel includes: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (vocals, ukulele); Mel Amina, Barry Flanagan (guitar).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.

| 3-Ring DVD Album (2004)
$19.15 | | Flyleaf CD (2005)
$16.99 A buzz began to circulate over Belton, Texas, quartet Flyleaf when the band's debut EP first made the rounds. Fronted by singer Lacey Mosley, the band generates an enormous sound that draws on elements of nu-metal, screamo, and alternative rock, with Mosley's sometimes ferocious/sometimes sweet vocals lending the group a distinctive edge. Expectation ran high for the band's first long-player, but, luckily, Flyleaf's self-titled debut full-length doesn't disappoint. Leading off with the album's first single, "I'm So Sick," the album states its business and continues from there. There are hooks and melodic elements woven skillfully into the thrash, ensuring that Flyleaf's songs won't fade away as easily as many by their alt-metal contemporaries. But don't let Mosley's sometimes charming voice lull you: she can scream like a banshee, and the band hits with as much muscle as anyone on the scene. Fans of the genre are encouraged to check this out.
Recording information: Bay 7, Valley Village, CA; Sparky Dark, Calabasas, CA.
Flyleaf: Lacey Mosley (vocals); Sameer Bhattacharya, Jared Hartmann (guitar); Pat Seals (bass guitar); James Culpepper (drums).
Additional personnel: Dave Navarro (guitar); Howard Benson (keyboards); Ryan White (background vocals).

Buckle up and hold on!!! My first experience with Flyleaf was their live appearance on the Fall Brawl tour with POD and Staind in Amarillo, TX. Flyleaf brings a tremendous amount of energy both through their music and in person on stage. Their music is crisp and edgy, producing a technically solid foundation of sound to support Lacey's powerfully gripping vocals. Their live performance prompted me to purchase this album, then to find that I love every song on the album! Submitted by Matt (Amarillo, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
