SENTIMENTAL is a 2005 studio album by Tanita Tikaram. The album is the singer's sixth.
2005 album from the singer/songwriter who rose to fame with hits like "Twist In My Sobriety". It is her sixth studio album and her first record since 1998’s "Cappuccino Songs". The album features 10 songs and unique vocal collaborations with Nick Lowe (who sings on two of the tracks). Articulate and engagingly self deprecating, Tanita’s aims for this album were very simple: “I wanted to get back to things I had forgotten, fundamental ideas about keeping things simple and interesting and looking at how the voice sits with other instruments”, says Tanita, “Ideas I felt I lost but which maybe I just knew naturally when I was seventeen.”
Personnel: Tanita Tikaram (vocals, piano); Daniela Ronconi (vocals, piano, celesta, electric piano, organ, vibraphone, tambourine); Robert Trehern (vocals, drums); Nick Lowe (vocals); Mark Creswell (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar); Steve Donnelly (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Alessandro Mara, Di Marzio, Laura, Cristiano Pulin, Alberto DeStefani, Simone Grizzi, Matteo Metalli, Carmine Rizzi (violin); Aldo Maria Zangheri (viola); Alessandro Culiani (cello); Raoul Ruffilli (flute); Giannarelli Giordano (accordion); Giorgio Babbini (bass clarinet); Daniele Rossoli (French horn); Carlo Bombardi (trombone); Neil Brockbank (bass guitar).
Great new collection not to be missed.... Picked this collection up overseas and
this is one of my favorites of the year, deeply personal songs played
with a crack jazz-pop outfit that fits
Tanita's smokey, laid back, sensual delivery to the max, every song is
an experience in sound and timing and
melodies abound. Tanita has never sounded this confident, relaxed and in
her element. It just grows on you with
each listen. Nick Lowe guests on two
songs and makes this even better just
having him. Listen to Tanita & Nick on
"Don't let the cold"(come through my
window) a quirky key track as well as
the upbeat jewel "Everyday is new" with
added duel vocals of her drummer Robert
Trehern, so many excellent contributions by this band add up to
one of the best surprises of the year
and a must have cd for your collection.

A Different Twist The same talented artist with a different twist of style. If you like Zazz, this is your album. If you like Tanita, this is also your album. Some people don't like the change of her music but I think it is just one of many different sides of Tanita. Submitted by elevianne (Houston, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Very disappointing After seven years of waiting, we get... Norah Jones?
What's with the jazz? This is one of the most boring albums I've ever heard. Tanita has never made a truly bad album - until now.
If you like her earlier work and want more of the same, don't buy this! Unless you want to be as disappointed as me. Submitted by Knutte (Uppsala, Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo This review is for a different format.
