(2 Customer Reviews)
What's Your Favorite Color? doesn't give Living Colour fans anything new. None of its remixes or B-sides are rare, or even very necessary: the seven-plus-minute mix of Stain's "Ausländer" robs the original of its rage, and a cover of Al Green's "Love and Happiness" (originally on the 1991 EP Biscuits) remains unremarkable. The live version of "Cult of Personality" and the "What's Your Favorite Color" remix were added to the 2002 Vivid reissue, and live, acoustic takes on "Nothingness" and "Leave It Alone" are from a 1993 Holland date that's also previously available. "Solace of You" will always be a gorgeous song, and the stripped-down version here is that. But it's not enough to justify this comp, which offers cobbled-together artwork, scanty liner information, and material that's already available and generally marginal. ~ Johnny Loftus
Living Colour completists will already have most or all of the material on What's Your Favorite Color? (Remixes, B-Sides & Rarities) -- none of it is previously unreleased or even particularly rare, and it's not comprehensive. The comp however does offer a capable survey of odds 'n' ends material from the era spanning the band's first three studio albums (roughly 1988-1994). A lengthy remix of the Stain highlight "Ausländer" starts things out, followed by two more mixes. A live recording of "Cult of Personality" from 1989 as well as a remix of "What's Your Favorite Color?" were both added to the 2002 reissue of Vivid; and acoustic takes on "Nothingness" and "Leave It Alone" are from a 1993 Holland date that's also previously available. The Al Green cover, "Love and Happiness," was part of Living Colour's 1991 EP Biscuits. A pretty acoustic version of "Solace of You" is What's Your Favorite Color?'s best moment. ~ Johnny Loftus

What's Your Favorite Color? album
$18.74 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH introduced the world to the heavy sound that Cooper would soon be taking to the top. With the invaluable production assistance of future Pink Floyd/Lou Reed cohort Bob Ezrin, LOVE IT TO DEATH proved Alice Cooper's first truly great album, and served as their commercial breakthrough.
That staple of teen alienation, "I'm Eighteen," ...
| | Joe Walsh Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get CD (1973) Gold
What's Your Favorite Color? CD music
$18.74 "Rocky Mountain Way," the tune that opens Joe Walsh's sophomore release (and remains one of his best-known songs), is a textbook example of Walsh's strengths. The song is driven by a slinky hard rock groove that boasts crunchy, distorted guitars, barrelhouse piano, wiry solos, and a catchy, singalong chorus--proving Walsh's penchant for mixing rock elements and radio-ready accessibility with a sense of wit and fun. The rest of SMOKER YOU DRINK, PLAYER YOU GET follows suit, with the mid-tempo rock ballad "Bookends," the bouncy, Latin-tinged "Happy Ways," and the airy, wistful ...

| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
What's Your Favorite Color? songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger
