(4 Customer Reviews)
On 2005's MEANS TO AN END, New York City's Biohazard returns to a stripped-down sound; there's no army of guest stars here (a la 2001's UNCIVILIZATION), just the veteran quartet and its straight-up, pummeling hardcore-metal. As always, socially conscious lyrics (the anti-war "Killing to Be Free") mix with themes of self-doubt and inner turmoil (the angst-ridden "The Fire Burns Inside"), and the emotional punch of these topics is hit home by the shouted vocals of bassist Evan Seinfeld and guitarist Billy Graziadei. Fifteen years after its self-titled debut album, Biohazard still sounds as vital and angry as ever, and longtime fans will undoubtedly be pleased with MEANS TO AN END.
2005 full length album from one of the first hardcore bands to fuse hip hop with metal.

| | Obituary Frozen In Time CD (2005)
Means To An End
$15.65 The return of Obituary in 2005 came as a surprise, for the band hadn't been active since the mid-'90s. They sort of petered out after World Demise in 1994, releasing the ho-hum Back from the Dead in 1997 and then calling it a day as the bandmembers busied themselves elsewhere, most visibly as guitarist Allen West enjoyed a lot of success in Six Feet Under. Obituary's reunion album, Frozen in Time, wasn't only a surprise because of the long absence, though. It also came as a surprise because it's so darn good, up there with the best the band ever recorded, even in their heyday. Clocking in at a brisk ten songs in 35 minutes, Frozen in Time is a perfect Obituary album -- almost so perfect it invites such criticisms as "more of the same." But more of the same is perfectly fine when it's done this well, especially for longtime fans nostalgic for the good ol' days of death metal. Obituary never were a band to push the boundaries, after all -- avant-garde death metal they were not. Then again, there was a day when they were cutting-edge, that is, way back in 1989 when they debuted with Slowly We Rot, a trailblazing statement for its time and one that inspired ...

| | Malahoff Sanderband Baseball Song CD (2004)
Means To An End
$9.29 "The Baseball Song" is dedicated to any team, town or fan that "likes to play that ball". It's a celebration of baseball in all it's forms, at any level. Few memorable baseball songs have been written. This song is unique in style and presentation and remains faithful to the language of the game. The groove is a good fit with the ballpark atmosphere and loans itself well to audience participation. It's anthem-like guitar theme ( set to a bluesy / country / rock rhythm ) showcases "The Great American Pastime". We're aiming for a Hit "single" but hoping for a "Home Run". Numerous sound professionals have complimented the quality of the recording and the mix. ( To hear the MP3 clip on this site in higher quality, select the "Play All Songs" button rather than the individual song name. )J. Malahoff played and coached baseball for more than 20 years. He understands the game and it's lingo and incorporated this knowledge into his writing of "The Baseball Song". Teaming together their musical talents and experience of about 30 years each, W. Sanderson and J. Malahoff recorded and produced the song into it's current ...

Reissues can be quite revealing when a band has been around for a decade or more. A reissue might demonstrate that a band's sound has pretty much stayed the same over the years, or it might make the listener say, "You know, this band has done a lot of evolving since this album was recorded." Arch Enemy's debut album, Black Earth (which was recorded in 1996 and reissued in the United States by Regain in 2007), is definitely an example of the latter. Between 1996 and 2007, Arch Enemy experienced some lineup changes, and their approach became increasingly polished along the way. That isn't to say that Black Earth is not well played or short on chops, only that Arch Enemy favored more rawness in the beginning. Arch Enemy's 1996 lineup -- Michael and Christopher Amott on guitar, Johan Liiva on lead vocals and bass, and Daniel ...
