my favourite one
in the same way as Born to run is the most spectacular and vibrant example of rock album, Darkness shows the introspective Bruce, full of anger and disillusioned.
This is my really favourite album of the boss, just listen to Badlands, Adam raised a Cain, Factory and you will agree, this is an absolute masterpiece, it made me think a lot.

Darkness Shines!
As this has long been one of my favorite albums, as much for the sparse sound of the overall production, I have long looked forward to a remastered version of this 25 year old release.
I was curious to hear two things basically: The back up vocals and and the rythum and percussion. When this came out Bruce was quoted as saying that he "oversand and underplayed." He also said that his goal on his previous album, Born to Run was to, among other things, sing like Roy Oberson." To me, he accomplishes that task on Darkness on the Edge of Town. To hear the back up vocals on this cleaned up release is like knocking open the windows and letting the brease come in. In particular, I enjoyed Racing in the Street, The Promised Land and the title track.

'Rattle-snake speedy in the Utah desert...' Who else could come up with such an opening line...?

Even better live
This is one of the great albums of alltime and if you've had the pleasure to hear these songs live -- either in person or on the Live 75-85 collection -- they are even better.
More passion, a little quicker pace and the heart of any Springsteen show.
Either way, incredibly deep lyrics, energy and anger.
