(1 Customer Review)
EXIT 674 is the 13-track debut release by Canadian rockers Ashes of Soma and includes "Emancipate" and "Time."
With their uninhibited social commentary and pulsating timbre, Ashes Of Soma's debut album, "Exit 674" is an impressionable tease: a viscerally flammable musical experience. Outrageously intense, quirky - yet disruptively mischievous as its roguish crew. With wired enthusiasm barely containable off each explosive track, one listen is all it takes to realize that Ashes Of Soma are gearing up to be revealed as Canada's best kept secret and hottest new discovery. Exit 674 album
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam Cooke ("Twistin' The Night Away"). Sidling up nicely next to these heartfelt interpretations are some of Stewart's finest original songs. Teaming with spiritual brother Ron Wood, Stewart offers up the ...

| | Tom Waits Glitter And Doom Live CDs (2009) Digipak
Exit 674 music CDs
$13.84 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The ...

| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Exit 674 album
$12.99 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry is a band, not a person, and such reminders may be necessary because LEAVE THIS TOWN doesn't differ much in feel or form from DAUGHTRY. Overall, LEAVE THIS TOWN isn't quite ...

| | Fela Kuti Open & Close/Afrodisiac CD (2001)
Exit 674 album
$13.95 Includes liner notes by Jacqueline Grandchamp-Thiam, Rikki Stein and Mabinuori Kayode Idowu.
Digitally remastered by Pompon (Translab Paris, Paris, France).
This CD reissue combines two early-'70s albums -- Open & Close and Afrodisiac -- on a single disc. Open & Close has just three songs, all in the ten- to 15-minute range, mixing some of the improvisational verve of jazz into Kuti's Afro-funk stew. There's a bittersweet, faintly melancholy tone to some of the progressions that differentiates this from much African pop of then and later, and the half-dozen percussionists set a good bed on which the horns and electric keyboards swap lines. "Gbagada Gbagada Gbogodo Gbogodo" is highlighted by extensive call-and-response vocals between Kuti and the band. The four (as usual, lengthy) songs occupying Aphrodisiac had been originally recorded in Nigeria as 45 rpm releases, though that album consists of re-recordings of these done in London in the early '70s. (Confusingly, one part of the liner notes gives the years 1972-1973 as the recording dates, while another section says they were cut in 1971.) While it's true that Fela Kuti's records from this period are pretty similar to each other, in their favor they're not boring. These four workouts, all sung in Nigerian, are propulsive mixtures of funk and African music, avoiding the homogeneity of much funk and African records of later vintage, done with nonstop high energy. The interplay between horns, electric keyboards, drums, and Kuti's exuberant vocals gives this a jazz character without sacrificing the earthiness that makes it danceable as well. "Jeun Ko Ku (Chop'n Quench)" became Kuti's first big hit in Nigeria, selling 200,000 copies in its first six months in its initial version. ~ Richie Unterberger
Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of the African musician's albums on one CD: Open & Close (1971) and Afrodisiac (1973). Of all African musicians, Fela Kuti probably needs the least introduction. He passed his half century with ...

Exit 674 music CDs
$10.75 Perhaps more than any other era in the history of hard rock/heavy metal, the early 21st century has seen more and more bands comprised of a female singer fronting an all-male band (Arch Enemy, Otep, etc.). But the one female-fronted band to break through in a major way commercially during this time was Evanescence, a group with heavy goth leanings. It would be understandable to figure that the Polish band, Artrosis, is merely jumping ...
