Following Cook's debut CD/DVD (sold over 250,000 and still going strong), is this double CD of over 100 minutes of new material plus a companion DVD of some of his best Comedy Central appearances from "Crank Yankers" to "Shorties Watchin'" to "Unedited Bar Mitzvah Bash". Dane is one of the top stand-up comedians working today, headlining sold out shows coast to coast. He's had his own top-rated Comedy Central special, and performed countless times on Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, and "Comics Come Home" hosted by Denis Leary.
Logos are usually reserved for brand names, rock bands, and superheroes, but comedian Dane Cook has acquired his own logo--the Superfinger. This tricked-out variation of the middle finger embodies Cook's irreverent style of humor, and, on the one-CD/one-DVD set RETALIATION, recorded live in Boston, there's plenty of his quirky, in-your-face banter. Here the Massachusetts native waxes profane on being "Abducted" into alien spaceships ("I'm interested. I'm here for you. Don't suck me up by my chest."), "Superpowers" ("I'd like to be able to shoot spaghetti out of my fingertips."), and "The Friend Nobody Likes" ("You keep them [around] to hate their guts."). Like the crass buddy you can't help but laugh at, Cook isn't afraid to offend, and his carefree, often-absurd routines are sure to keep listeners chuckling, while waving their Superfingers in the air.
Personnel: Dane Cook (spoken vocals).

One word: overrated I'm sick of hearing from everyone that this guy the greatest comedian that ever lived. Honestly, if I want to hear his kind of humor, I'll just go to school, because everyone seems to have his jokes memorized. That's not always a bad thing if you memorize material from an actual good comedian, but Dane Cook's jokes are often tasteless, unnecessarily vulgar, and sometimes just plain stupid. Some of you may say that I'm just a jaded prick who hasn't listened to all of his jokes, but get this: I've listened to both his CDs front to back and seen several of his specials/performances, and I can't get into it. He has his moments, but the bad outweighs the good in the long run. If you want some real comedic talent, check out the late great Mitch Hedberg, the master of observational comedy, and leave this guy behind. | | Antiseen Noise For The Sake Of Noise CD (1989)
Retaliation CD music
$11.19 This debut album's mishmash of post-punk rawness, Sonic Youth-style noise guitar, and an unapologetic classic rock sensibility (covers include Roky Erickson's "Two Headed Dog," the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird," and even a terrific reworking of Bob Dylan's "Positively 4th Street," that's actually the album's best track) sounds now like a dry run for the White Stripes, At the Drive-In, and My Morning Jacket. What Antiseen lacks that those later bands would bring to the table is the ability to expertly balance their pop and noise influences; as a result, much of Noise for the Sake of Noise sounds top-heavy with buzzsaw guitars and feedback drones in a way that the songs can't really support. ~ Stewart Mason
An augmented reissue of Antiseen's 1989 debut album, filled out with live tracks, early singles, and demos, Noise for the Sake of Noise still delivers on the titular promise, but in retrospect, it doesn't sound nearly as extreme as it did at the time of release. In fact, this album's mishmash of post-punk rawness, Sonic Youth-style noise guitar, and an unapologetic classic rock sensibility (covers include Roky Erickson's "Two Headed Dog," the Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird," ...

In 2003, more than two decades after disbanding, the original Joe Jackson Band reunited for a new album and tour, to longtime fans' unending delight. The reggae-influenced, bass-driven band did much to popularize "new wave" in the late 1970s, and after 20-plus ...

Retaliation album
$12.39 Back once again with the ill behavior, Ralphie May's sophomore release finds the hip-hop comedian sounding just as excited as he was on his debut, but twice as comfortable. In contrast, 2004's Just Correct was a full on attack on the listener with its routines and attitude stopping just short of grating. With Girth of a Nation, Ralphie's found his voice and casually strolls through his love of black movie theaters, the mentally challenged, and his former love of drugs ("You know you're getting older when you give up all your drugs") in ...
