| | Bucky Pizzarelli Moonglow CD Bucky Pizzarelli Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Two of the modern masters of jazz guitar, Bucky Pizzarelli and Frank Vignola are a generation apart in age but of the same mind when it comes to their style of playing. Both lovers of memorable melodies, Pizzarelli has long favored a seven-string electric guitar and primarily sticks to playing inventive rhythm accompaniment behind Vignola's bright lead lines. This duo guitar date focuses on ballads, most of which were standards at one time, though many of them have unjustly fallen from favor at the dawn of a new century, including songs like "Moonlight Serenade" and "Deep Purple." Though both have tremendous chops and can show off when they desire to do so, their joint focus in on subtle lyricism throughout the date, seeking to please no one but themselves. The intimate sound makes the listener feel like an eavesdropper on a private session between two old friends. It is almost criminal to highlight just a few of this CD's 16 tracks, so it should be sufficient to say that this release provides a perfect background at the end of a busy day with someone special. ~ Ken Dryden

Moonglow music CDs
$8.85 Johnny Smith's best-known album, 1952's MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT (also the title of his signature song), assured the guitarist a place in jazz history. While saxophone legend Stan Getz is a prominent guest on the record, and certainly threatens to steal the show on numerous occasions, the spotlight never strays too far from Smith, who easily entrances with his supremely laid-back style. Consisting almost entirely of standards, MOONLIGHT is ideal for ...

| | Harry Best Sittin' In Da Sun CD (1999)
Moonglow CD music
$11.35 Harry Best is an accomplished steeldrum player, songwriter and recording artist from the Caribbean island of St.Lucia. Harry's music has been featured in many of the Carnival Festivals of the islands over the years. Most noted are hit songs he wrote with the calypsonian Arrow entitled "Lolay Lolai" and "Come Girl". Harry is also the leader of a Caribbean reggae Band, SHABANG, which performs regularly on the west coast of the United States. Harry Best sits in the center of a musical triangle with Bob Marley, Otis Redding and Winston "Shadow" Bailey at the points. At any given moment he can be the romantic, the rebel or the mystic; or a combination of the three. Born to a family of musicians on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean, Harry's earliest influences were the deep-rooted Conga drumming of one uncle and the 'Nat Cole' imitative crooning of another. Harry grew up on a steady diet of regional calypsos mixed with regular rations of North American pop music from artists such as Sam Cooke, Fats Domino and Chubby Checker. When Harry migrated to the U.S. in the late ...
