| | Ennio Morricone Crime And Dissonance Soundtrack CD
Released on avant-garde performer Mike Patton's Ipecac label, 2005's CRIME AND DISSONANCE is a two-disc, 30-track collection that showcases the more experimental work of revered Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who is best known for his spaghetti ... Full DescriptionWestern film scores. The pieces here are primarily culled from Morricone's late-1960s/early-'70s soundtracks, and, consequently, some of them, including the opening "Girono di Notte," have a distinctive psychedelic-rock vibe. Other numbers are more atmospheric and less melodic, incorporating eerie strings, minimal percussion, and haunting, breathy vocals. Patton and composer John Zorn, who contributes liner notes here, have both admittedly been strongly influenced by the bold, dynamic work of Morricone, and this compilation reveals the most adventurous side of the prolific artist.

Crime And Dissonance Soundtrack music CDs
$13.65 Despite their complexity, cartoon soundtracks have largely been regarded as the redheaded stepchildren of the music world. For culturally disinterested youths, however, Elmer Fudd's performance in the Bugs Bunny classic "What's Opera, Doc?" offered a priceless introduction to classical music.
Just as Chuck Jones's 1957 animated short paid homage to Wagnerian opera, Fantomas's SUSPENDED ANIMATION pays thrash-metal tribute to cartoon music. In marked contrast to its haunting 2004 single-track opus, DELIRIUM CORDIA, the band's follow-up borrows the onomatopoeic nature and intricate arrangement of the cartoon score, and sets it within the unlikely context of grinding metal and atmospheric jazz. The music here is organized chaos, exemplified by frenetic bass-and-drums freakouts ("04/12/05 Tuesday") and Mike Patton's spastic, gurgling vocal manipulations ("04/26/05 Tuesday"). Guitarist Buzz ...

Crime And Dissonance Soundtrack songs
$12.99 Gleefully bizarre and uncompromisingly adventurous, Japan's OOIOO unleashes another round of controlled chaos with GOLD AND GREEN. Here vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Yoshimi P-We and company are joined by Sean Lennon and Yuka Honda (formerly of Cibo Matto), among others, and while the record occasionally settles into a melody, it's often a chiming, percussive, drone-based affair with wordless female vocals drifting in and ...

Crime And Dissonance Soundtrack CD music
$12.75 The quaint, self-contained folk portraits of the debut are obliterated here in favor of sprawling epics that recall sea shanties, Homeric myths, and progressive rock. Newsom's words are still highly literate and evocative, though they seem more narrative and symbolic than the surreal expressions of MENDER. The album is graced by string arrangements from Van Dyke Parks which create a swelling, dramatic counterpoint to Newsom's performances. Production assistance from indie-rock titans Steve Albini and Jim O'Rourke helps make this stellar effort one of 2006's most provocative releases.
It shouldn't be a surprise that an artist as stridently unconventional as Joanna Newsom ...
