The Doors held it together for two more albums after Jim Morrison died but, after that, keyboardist Ray Manzarek pursued a solo career. His second solo album is occupied mostly by tunes that seem like a logical 1970s continuation of what the Doors did in the '60s, though Manzarek's singing conjures a whole different vibe than Morrison's. Unusual touches include an Eastern-tinged jazz-rock instrumental ("Whirling Dervish") and a vocal contribution from Patti Smith ("I Wake Up Screaming"), shortly before the release of her first album.
2008 digitally remastered reissue of this solo album from the Doors' keyboardist. Originally released in 1974, the full title of the album is The Whole Thing Started With Rock & Roll, Now It's Out Of Control. Features the track 'Wake Up Screaming', a poem written by Jim Morrison which features Patti Smith on vocals. Album also includes Joe Walsh of the Eagles and Dick Wagner who worked with Lou Reed. Whole Thing Started With Rock & Roll Now It's Out Of Control Music Review

Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)
Ray demonstrates his genius Ray Manzarek demonstrates his genius. His keyboards gave the Doors it's sound. But this is Ray's sound...and it's fantastic! Ray's genius as a composer, keyboardist and vocalist shines. His music is brought to life with the assistance of Joe Walsh and Flo & Eddie on this album. This album isn't just a must for any Doors collector. In fact, except for a few chords of "Light my Fire", it sounds nothing like the Doors. But in it's own right it sounds just as good.
