The soundtrack to the screwball comedy THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN provides the opportunity for guilty pleasures to be piled one atop the other in an unabashed display of cheesy but undeniably effective pop hits from the 1970s and '80s. Where else ... Full Descriptionwould you find Dr. Hook's '70s bachelor-pad seduction ballad "Sharing the Night Together" along with the prog-meets-AOR bombast of Asia's "Heat of the Moment?" Of course, there are some unassailable musical giants represented here as well, like James Brown and Smokey Robinson (the latter's unknown gem "Virgin Man" making the cut for obvious reasons), but cuts by the likes of Corey Hart and Survivor (no, not "Eye of the Tiger") ensure that there's novelty/kitsch value aplenty on THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN.
Original Soundtrack: Steve Carell (vocals).
Recording information: 1973 - 2003.

40 Year-Old Virgin Soundtrack album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. First and foremost, the box contains nearly five wall-to-wall hours of great music. By including everything from early demos to Gregg Allman and Dickie Betts' solo material, DREAMS does a great job of tracing the group's ...

| | Legacy: The Absolute Best Of The Doors CDs (2003)
40 Year-Old Virgin Soundtrack songs
$20.95 Recorded between 1967 & 1983. Includes liner notes by Jim Ladd.
There's been no shortage of Doors compilations over the years, but this two-disc 2003 collection is looking like the one to beat. It spans the seminal band's entire (though admittedly brief) career, and perhaps most importantly, it goes well beyond the usual hits and radio fodder. LEGACY digs deep into the Doors' catalog, fully capturing the mysterious beauty and hypnotic intensity of their work. Naturally all the standards are included ("Light My Fire," "Love Me Two Times," "Hello, I Love You," etc.), and truth be told those are fully as majestic as their more obscure brethren, whether or not they've been overplayed throughout the decades.
It's a pleasure to scour the less traveled corners via the poetic-yet-visceral "Peace Frog," the twisted carnival of souls that is "Not to Touch the Earth," and the mystical narrative of "Celebration of the Lizard." "Strange Days" is true ...
| | Santana Caravanserai CD (1972) Remastered
40 Year-Old Virgin Soundtrack album
$7.59 Though there were hints of jazz fusion on Santana's first three albums, 1972's CARAVANSERAI introduced a dramatic shift in the band's sound, away from essentially pop-based music to a freer, more harmonically complex jazz/rock hybrid. In addition, the record marked a splintering of the original Santana lineup (soon to splinter further still with the departure of organist Gregg Rolie and guitarist Neal Schon, who then formed Journey).
Seemingly unconcerned with the pursuit of hit singles, guitarist Carlos Santana and crew here turn in an exquisitely moody disc of mostly instrumental jamming with a brooding intensity akin to Miles Davis's classic BITCHES BREW, underscored by the San Francisco-based ensemble's trademark propulsive rhythms. The new approach reaches its apex on the fiery, Chick Corea-like "La Fuente Del Ritmo," which features future ...

40 Year-Old Virgin Soundtrack album
$16.19 This is the sophomore project for The E&E Blues Express, an Oklahoma City blues band that consist primarily of E. James Brazille and E. Kharim Brazille; a father and son band. E&E have performed for many years together in the Oklahoma area and have received nice praise. In the years they have performed live, their typical band setup was Ermitt, the father, on lead guitar and vocals, Emmitt, the son, on drums, Ermitt's brother Kenneth on Keyboards, James Russell on bass/keyboards, and Lil' Mac on tenor sax. Once again, E&E are manning most of the instrumentation ...
