Canton Jones Love Jones Songs Love Jones Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Sons overwhelmed Canton Jones came to our church, The Greater New Testament Church in Tuscaloosa, Al to our youth conference and my sons absolutely loved him. We are online now purchasing his cd. I am so pleased to know that they really enjoyed him when he came and I asked them if they would listen to him rather than secular hip hop artist and they said yes. Canton, keep up the image of God to draw the youth into the Kingdom, for they are the next move of God. I do believe that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. God bless you indeed. $11.65 Hip-hop star and Christian--while that seems like an unlikely pairing of traits, Atlanta's Canton Jones has made waves in both realms with his easy-going, non-preachy flow and ultra-catchy dance grooves. On this fifth album, released in 2008, the rapper extols the virtues of "Livin' Clean," but never abandons the slow-churning Southern rap feel on jams like "24s."

Love Jones
$11.49 THE ELEVENTH HOUR won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
Jars of Clay made their name as a Christian rock band, but even from the start that created all sorts of incorrect assumptions about the group. With THE ELEVENTH HOUR, they almost completely cast off that mantle, calling for a general reassessment of the band by those who lumped them in with the "God squad." At this point, they're no more overtly spiritual than Creed. Beyond one song referencing a need to pray, this is very secular fare.
That's not to say that JOC have suddenly transformed into party animals singing about sex, drugs and rock & roll. They're still thoughtful young men who wrap their introspection in plangent electric and acoustic guitars and accessible pop-rock choruses. "Revolution," for example, examines the need for self-confidence over a raucous, somewhat Smash Mouth-like arrangement, while other songs ...

| | Dr Hook I Got Stoned & I Missed It: The Best From Shel Silverstein 1971-79 CD (2003) (Import) Australia
Love Jones
$19.99 Dr. Hook's 1970s brand of country-flavored pop/rock was always at its best with a satirical edge, usually supplied by the songwriting talents of humorist and Playboy cartoonist Shel Silverstein. While it wouldn't be quite correct to call Dr. Hook simply a mouthpiece band, the fact remains that the group's most memorable songs were penned by Silverstein, from "Cover of the Rolling Stone" to "Sylvia's Mother," and with deadly satirical Silverstein tunes like "I Got Stoned and I Missed It" and "Looking for Pussy" in their back pocket, Dr. Hook managed to have it both ways: they scored huge pop hits and got to laugh at it all with a wink and a grin, a maneuver that gave them cultural credence for a time. Raven Records, an Australian reissue label, has assembled a generous, 23-track, single-disc anthology of Dr. Hook's Silverstein canon, and in truth, it makes a better Dr. Hook best-of set than the official best-of collections on the market. ~ Steve Leggett
The first ever Dr Hook compilation to concentrate on the riotous and irreverent songs written for them by legendary satirist Shel Silverstein. Culled ...
| | Holy Hip Hop: Taking The Gospel To The Streets CD (2004)
Love Jones
$9.85 From its earliest days, hip-hop has really been about "The Message," perhaps best summed up by Grandmaster Flash's enduring 1982 classic of the same name. While that song's decaying world evokes feelings of spiritual abandonment, the forceful track lays undeniable claim to rap's power as a pulpit. Although hip-hop's first few decades did ...
