Suffrajett EP album
$14.54 Listening to cradlesong, the second album from Matchbox Twenty singer/songwriter Rob Thomas, it's hard not to think of him as a man out of time, making big music for a world of miniature niches. Thomas makes music as if it was the turn of the millennium, when there were cross-demographic radio formats and stores to goose sales to diamond status, traits that still serve him well when he's constructing sonic skyscrapers even if ...

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Suffrajett EP music CDs
$7.59 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his ...
| | Tift Merritt Buckingham Solo CD (2009) Digipak
Suffrajett EP songs
$11.98 With no accompaniment other than her own acoustic guitar and piano, and BUCKINGHAM SOLO could scarcely be more spare, but Tift Merritt's clear, resonant voice, delicate but never fragile, soars gracefully though these 12 songs with nothing to hold them back. Though Merritt is not given to showboating, her style is obviously carefully considered, ...

Suffrajett EP songs
$10.15 For as long as I can remember, I have been singing. Singing was always something that came naturally. As a child and through my teenage years, I was quite the loner when it came to doing just that. In my bedroom is where I honed my craft singing along with greats like Ann Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge. Although performing in front of people never went farther than my mother or brother, one day, I was given the opportunity to sing in front of an audience. Nervous doesn't even describe what I felt that night. Then the song was over, the applause came, and I liked it. A lot.Soon, I started taking guitar lessons and that enabled me to write my own songs. The first song I ever wrote entitled "Sometimes" was written in less than 15 minutes, and remains one of my favorite songs to date. Playing in cover bands from 1997 through 2000 gave me the opportunity to perform with a band all around the Chicagoland area and was a great learning experience in the music business. At the end of 2001, I had written enough material to start recording my first album. This I did along side my husband, Thomas Janicki, who ...
| | JT Stivers Chocolate Box CD (2002)
Suffrajett EP album
$17.05 BIO for J.T. Stivers...Started playing the baritone ukulele and piano as a tyke and sang barbershop with his sisters under the tutelage of Clifford Stivers, their grand dad.Picked up acoustic guitar in middle school, and banjo in high school. Learned bluegrass from southern boys. Learned to finger pick and write folky love songs, and it worked! (got a girl friend). Swore he'd never play electric music. God loves a pure heart.. . . then discovered old Jimi Hendrix records. . .Off to college, ostensibly to study English. Duo with Chip Hayden. Did stuff by Dylan, the Band. Summer in Rutland, VT with more bars on any given street than any other town in the US of A. JT's first rock band was "Pearl" in Waterville, Maine. Ever been to "The Chez?" You're lucky. Pearl wasn't. Took "leave of absence" from school. Lasted 15 years.Off to New York City. Sky scrapers and everything. Studied jazz guitar with Muse recording artist Linc Chamberlain (Coltrane meets guitar). Spent a year as a jazz snob, wore a beanie. I'm not kidding. Hooked up with Queens-based group Genyflyte, featuring Traviso Milner ...

| | Alpines Strange Company CD (2007)
Suffrajett EP music CDs
$11.49 Alpines - Strange Company (independent)"All songs are cliches" proclaims Alpines singer/songwriter Jon Ericson on the band's debut EP Strange Company. The irony here though is that although Alpines' Brit-pop influences are not difficult to detect, the band never resorts to cliches. Ericson takes a more subtle approach with his songwriting rather than trying to hit the listener over the head with quick, catchy hooks. So if the current state of catch-phrase songwriting that seems to be monopolizing the mainstream airwaves is getting on your nerves (like it is mine) then Strange Company is certainly worth a listen. It is the sort of album whose songs are enjoyable on the first listen ...
