Tied in with both the release of Wynonna Judd's memoir, COMING HOME TO MYSELF, and the DVD version of this concert, HER STORY: SCENES FROM A LIFETIME is a double-CD live album. Recorded in early 2005 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, this performance presents the beloved country singer celebrating 20 years of music, from her early work with the Judds to later solo hits. Throughout this career-spanning set, Wynonna's voice is in typically powerful form, whether she's easing into the Judds' "Dream Chaser" or stirring up the audience with a bold, soulful rendition of Tina Turner's "Simply the Best." Other highlights include an emotive version of "Tell Me Why" and a raucous take on "No One Else on Earth." In addition to the concert, HER STORY also presents a boisterous new studio track, "Attitude," a collaboration with Big & Rich's John Rich, adding a nice finishing touch to this wonderful Wynonna retrospective.
Personnel: Wynonna (vocals, guitar); Robert Bailey (vocals); Tony Obrohta (guitar, dobro, banjo); Henry Sharpe (guitar, keyboard); Randy Flowers (guitar); Steve Cox (piano, keyboards); Steve Mackey (bass guitar); Steve Potts (drums); Vicki Hampton (background vocals).
Recording information: Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, Tennessee (02/01/2005).
Her Story: Scenes From A Lifetime Music Wynonna Her Story: Scenes From A Lifetime Songs Her Story: Scenes From A Lifetime Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Welcome Back Wy!! This double cd pack comprising a live show recorded in Feb and one new studio track,(the John Rich co-written "Attitude")will keep Wynonna's loyal fans happy until we get some more new material. The show was recorded at the Oprey in front of a very enthusiastic audience, and it's top class!-Many of Wy's old hits are there, but so too are some new covers and a great track which was new to me,"Peace in our House". On the strength of this I have now purchased the DVD version of the show as well.
Wynonna is a phenomenon, why she doesn't get the sucess she deserves is beyond my comprehension, but at least she keeeps plugging away for her fans. Submitted by phillippaul.chandler (Airdrie, Scotland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
WY at the top of her live game I am NOT a country music fan, but there are some female country artists that are just too good for me to deny their talents. Wynonna is certainly one of them. This 2-disc live set is a must for her fans and anybody else that enjoys heartfelt, emotional live performances. The collection actually traces Wy's musical history with little spoken interludes between each song, which is a nice touch. Most live albums delete between-song chatter. I enjoyed the cover songs she did too, especially "The Best", "Shining Star" and "I'm The Only One." My all-time favorite Wynonna song, "Only Love" is M.I.A., but besides that glaring ommision, it is a pretty good representation of the 20 year history that Wynonna Judd has spent in the music biz as one half of The Judds and as a solo superstar. Rock on sister friend! Submitted by Jeffrey (Dickson City, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Her Story: Scenes From A Lifetime
$15.85 Well into his third decade as a country singer, Randy Travis continued to weather the changes in country music by remaining true to his own aesthetic. Travis was at the frontline of country's New Traditionalists in the 1980s, and, on 2004's PASSING THROUGH, he remains as roots-conscious as ever. For instance, the album's opening cut, the inspirational "Pick Up the Oars and Row," neatly splits the difference between Western Swing and barroom ballad, while the relatively up-tempo (Travis generally likes things slow and steady) "My Poor Old Heart" ventures into vintage George Jones honky-tonk territory. Travis retains one of the finest baritones in all of country music. On such ballads as the devotional "I'm Your Man" (not to be confused with the Leonard ...
