Maybe it's something in the water. Spend almost any night in New York City and you'll hear some of the world's best young jazz musicians, diverse in style and aesthetic outlook but united in their passion, and often in their near scandalous technical pro
Personnel: Jonathan Kreisberg (guitars); Scott Wendholt (trumpet); Aaron Goldberg (electric piano); Matt Penman (bass instrument); Anthony Pinciotti (drums). An up-and-coming jazz guitarist, Jonathan Kreisberg contributed all eight selections to this program. "Minor Leaps" is a run through the "Giant Steps" chord changes (some of which were altered to minor chords), "Until the Sun Submits" is a lyrical ballad, and "New for Now" is a romp. On "Pacific," Kreisberg's tone sounds a bit like John Scofield although his ideas are original, while on the jazz waltz "Microcosm for Two," he switches effectively to acoustic guitar. "Hobroken" is a 16-bar blues while "Peru" and "Unearth" have complex but logical chord changes and consistently inspired playing. The quintet sounds a bit unusual due to the instrumentation, which has a guitar-trumpet-electric piano front line. Trumpeter Scott Wendholt and keyboardist Aaron Goldberg are strong assets on the set while bassist Matt Penman and drummer Anthony Pincotti play their supportive roles well. ~ Scott Yanow
JazzTimes (p.94) - "[W]ith plenty of fast-paced, chops-testing material as well as more pensive, balladic fare. Everyone plays with brilliance..." Jonathan Kreisberg Unearth Songs Purchase Unearth CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Dave Stryker Stryker/Slagel Band CD (2003)

Unearth
$16.49 The Charles Walker Blues Band is a five piece band that performs with various styles of blues and R&B with precision. . What adds to the band uniqueness, apart from award winning musicians, is the richness of both the original and cover material. As one critic said, “Real edge of your seat, power wire blues.” A quote from the “Livin Blues” magazine describes us best, “…so much energy, you can’t resist but fall in love with every song. You’re drawn in and held for show after show with Charles band.”Reviews “In addition to the expressive saxophone of the leader, the band is very solid…there is a lot of potential in this group and it’s leader, which is obvious…”-Frederic Adrian, Soul Bag Magazine (July/Aug 06) “[These] guys sounded good.” -Robert Cray, Robert Cray Band “Charles is really good. Really good. The whole band is great.”-David Wilkes, KOCH Records, A&R VP “…we are treated to the full panoply of Blues styles, great tunes, intelligent lyrics and superb instrumentation throughout.”-Noggin “Blues Matters!” Magazine, Issue 33 “…vocalist Queen Nadine Neal is excellent and guitarist Emre Alp is in the pocket with his rhythms and right on time with leads.”-“Blues Revue” Magazine, Oct/Nov 2006 “I have listened to their cd…I liked it a lot.
