outstanding album,
this album impresses on what is already a supreme band in metal. they didn't take a rest in coming up with a great way to open the album with "nothing remains" and the quick follow up. the riffs that pack the songs with a thick sound and tight rhythms while changing tempos prevents the listener from falling into a lull. from "comatose" on, each song builds to something greater. whether it's the rhythm section, the vocals, the groove, or the mood and tension in the song, you're gonna catch something new with each listen. and of corse the closer is the epitome of how chimaira can write a great song, it has their best guitar solo to date (the rest of the solos on the album sound pretty much the same and what is it with that tone? they're gonna have to work on it if they want to get a more signature sound for arnold)and brillant on how a song can be crafted into a monster from beginning to end
the second disc is a up and down bonus
clayden is difficult song to follow- awesome riffs and segments on their own but together seems too much a clusterf*ck
malignant is much better but doesn't hold as strong as the songs on chimaira.
the live selection is full-bull badass, makes you eager to see these guys live

masterpiece of brutality
"Nothing Remains" sets the stage for one of the best albums to come out in the last ten years (Mastodon's Leviathan is another) heavy & brutal from start to finish, there isn't a single bad song here. the unreleased stuff & live material on the second disc is great too, "Pure Hatred" sounds even better with an audience.
